After 45 years of biking my for the first time the insurance premium is going to cost less than the road tax.

£85 as opposed to £93.

Not complaining about the insurance but how can they charge £93 when my car only costs £30?

It's the bike as much as your age. About 8 years ago I had a VFR750 that cost £67 a year to insure. The R1 that came a few years later cost £185. Swap your sensible sport tourer for for something impractical and you'll soon be feeling young again

They recut the road tax bands on the basis of CO2 ages ago, so low emission vehicles are cheap. They didn't do the same with bikes so they still have the old crude bands.

I currently pay £150 to insure 2 classics and a CBR600...my first insurance was about £750

I'm only 42 (only), but I have max no claims and I passed my test at 17, so I've max experience.

I always set voluntary excess to £0 and always get quotes for Fully Comp. No matter what I tried to insure, it always comes in between £80-100.

I think a lot of it is down to postcode.

But you're in Norn Iron, arentcha? They keep crashing and robbing cars there, often on purpose. The crashing, I mean. Not saying that's your da, mind...

Thats about what i paid in total for both bikes, the Ducati fully comp and both bikes for use while instructing and business use

Bike insurance here and on the mainland is insane. Most of my pals have TPO on all their bikes. They save dosh and it's hard to get a bike off the island.

But fully comp on the car, which cost the same as the GSXR, is only £250

I paid less in the UK for my 11 bikes (including a Guzzi 1200, an RC8 and an RC8R) that I do for an Enfield Himalayan and a Street Triple 675 out here.

Here you insure the vehicle and not the person, so anyone over 25 can drive your car or your bike if they have a licence. It means that multi bike policies here will never be a thing.

Had to get my Speed Triple ITV'd. Booked on line, turned up and gave the tester my papers. Waved straight into a testing lane, and i sat outside in the sunshine. Waited about 20 minutes, and all done. I should add that the bike is standard.

Two other bikes being tested at the time both failed on noisy exhaust. Both Harleys. Both with aftermarket pipes. The owners may like them but the ITV testers dont. Less headache keeping things standard if modifications cant be easily taken off and swapped for the standard parts.
