Would you buy a Aprilia tuono 1100v4 ???

Post by Dodgy69 »

I keep peaking but too many doubts to jump in. Imo, a beautiful bike. Loads of go, loads of smiles. But, Tank range not the best. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Servicing not the cheapest. Dealerships not that common. Some good specialist about though.

Anyone, any info.

No. Heard too many stories of woe. I want a bike that works out of the box. Not bike full of 'character'

Tis a good question and valid points. Like all bikes they have good points and bad.
I'd be jumping on a test ride first of all.

That looks like it's been rammed from behind at traffic lights and then hit the car in front..

I want one.

I guess the answers to your questions depend on how many miles you expect to do.

I reckon I'd probably do about 3k a year and I don't do massive distances when out for a ride, so tank size and servicing costs wouldn't worry me too much.

If my premium bonds had done there job the other day I'd be buying a brand new one, with warranty. I think the 17s on, would be the better 2nd hand option.
I don't bike commute, so its all jolly with the odd few days trip and track shenanigans. Chuck a bag on the back, doable I think.

These thoughts usually pass, but this ones hanging about abit. 🤔

Thanks for replies and none the wiser. 👍

Also Aprilia have a reputation for abysmal parts supply after sales. I remember Abel had a Tuono back in the day and after a fairly low speed spill into the rear of a car he had a 6 month wait for a nose fairing iirc

I would consider one,but I doubt I'd buy one if it was my only/main bike.

I'd have one in heartbeat, but then I'm moderately biased.

All reports are that it is an absolute missile. I had one of the gen 2's while the Falco was off the road for a sprag a few years back, and although the riding position is great it wasn't the comfiest after about 100 miles but it was really insane (for me). The front wheel lifts really easy and it gives you (me) a feeling of insanity that is beyond your (my) own capabilities.

Lack of dealerships is a pain, OE stuff can be expensive but because it's such an insane bike a good few end up meeting a premature end so spares are readily available second hand. Second hand bikes are bound to have been thrashed mind you. They don't inspire you to ride sensibly.

Totally agree, too risky on it's own.

I would, and in fact nearly did when my 890 went pop, and even went s far as getting a "cost to change" a month or so after getting the 765- back then Wheels Motorcycles (Peterborough) had cracking deals on the both the regular and Factory version, not the Black though, which I think looks lovely.
I've a soft spot for Aprilias and Tuonos specifically having had two of the V2s admittedly , but I'm not sure that all the tales of woe with the first RSV4 motors , and the historical reputation for poor dealer service and long waits for spares are still valid
I still can see me having an 1100 Tuono at some point in the not too distant, but well, yeah - still basically this for me too

Loved the test ride I took , such a fantastic engine and great handling and has that special Italian bike feel.

For me I found it too small and maybe better suited to someone shorter than 6'. Been a bit bigger I dare say there would be one in my garage now but it wouldn't have been my only bike.

It's not for you then.

You have to be a real man to tame a 1100 V4 and real men are over 6 foot.
