3D printing

Post by maccecht »

Anyone had some stuff 3D printed? Is it expensive? My company runs transit custom vans and the panels below the fuel filler disappear regularly due to a shit design of the clips. Ford want stupid money for them just wandering if 3D printing was a option.

I’ve had a couple of things made, a number of inline socket mounts with cable entry gland M20 female thread, kindly designed and printed by Metz of of Visordown as follows:

IIRC this was the prototype.

I also had a 3 gang socket tray made for my ikea desktop which I sourced via thingiverse (I think) and got printed via cloudcraft, part turned out quite expensive for a one off job but it was cheaper than buying the part plus a load of surplus bits from ikea and ikea doesn’t sell the part separately.

Had oodles of bits made for work, it's the go to now for widgets spacers and doodads. We've got several machines of our own now too, most places do.

Your first challenge will be getting a 3D CAD
model of the part you need.

Protolabs are OK but take the piss on price IMO, even when youve got pro money to spend.

Fuck me another fucking moron who thinks you can just design a universal clip. Go ahead then if you think its so easy.
You didn't ask whether the OP could provide a suitable CAD file to drive the 3D printer.

Your “moron” replies: most people, given Maccecht’s innocent enquiry of your good self, who has the apparent skills to help, would have asked, in a pleasant way - “which model of Transit, which exact part, have you a pic etc”.

Not you. You go immediately into full on shitty mode without hesitation.

Have a break - again. Have a word with yourself - again. You’re allowing your unpleasantness on the politics forum to invade the rest of your conversations. Nobody else on here does this, tho I don’t suppose that bothers you.

Seriously, Screwd.

My time in design and manufacturing predate the development and easy availability of 3D printing.

I was wondering, does it require some sort of meltdown?

Ime, yes, most types of meltdown are catered for by 3D printing.
