That just as they were breaking into the charts around 1981? It was taken in the now somewhat infamous Raquels night club in Basildon.

Stolen from a Friendface group...

Ascension Island, some time in the 80's I think.

How small does that Victor look when parked in front of a C-5?

That would have been the Vulcan bombing the Falklands airport.

IIRC required 21 aircraft.

Hang on ...

Vulcan 607 by Rowland White

It was to be one of the most ambitious operations since 617 Squadron bounced their revolutionary bombs into the dams of the Ruhr Valley in 1943 . . .

April 1982. Argentine forces had invaded the Falkland Islands. Britain needed an answer. And fast. The idea was simple: to destroy the vital landing strip at Port Stanley.

The reality was more complicated. The only aircraft that could possibly do the job was three months from being scrapped, and the distance it had to travel was four thousand miles beyond its maximum range. It would take fifteen Victor tankers and seventeen separate in-flight refuellings to get one Avro Vulcan B2 over the target, and give its crew any chance of coming back alive.

Yet less than a month later, a formation of elderly British jets launched from a remote island airbase to carry out the longest-range air attack in history. At its head was a single aircraft, six men, and twenty-one thousand-pound bombs, facing the hornet’s nest of modern weaponry defending the Argentine forces on the Falkland Islands. There would be no second chances

Found them in the garage and put them to good use. Going to give the door another coating during the week, the inside as well.

If only we had not scrapped the Eagle and Ark Royal, and all the Buccaneers....... . Or had replaced them with a more modern equivalent.

IIRC it was all dubiously effective anyway Impressive achievement, kinda pointless.

I also always think it's nuts that this kind of range bombing attack (and much further) is standard practice with B2 stealth bombers now. All through the second Gulf War they flew round trips from US-Iraq to bomb stuff.

Digging the Central Line in 1898. Construction of the tunnels for this line began in 1896, with 9.14 kilometres of tunnelling completed by the end of 1898. The original section of the line ran from Shepherd's Bush to Bank, served by 13 stations.
.
The tunnels were 3.5 metres across, with the diameter increasing to 6 to 9 metres at stations. The engineers responsible for construction were James Henry Greathead (designer of the tunnelling shield), Basil Mott, John Fowler, and Benjamin Baker.
