Motorcycle Live - meh or yeah?
Re: Motorcycle Live - meh or yeah?
Had not been for a while so attended last years. Dont expect to go again for the foreseeable. Thought it was crap. Expensive to enter expensive to park expensive to eat. Load of stall selling cheap junk and dealers too busy talking to each other to talk to the public. So MEH!

I like going on the train because parking is free and I don't need to lug my motorcycle gear around all day. Or alternatively pay for the cloakroom. I don't feel the need to prove I'm a motorcyclist.
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.

Remember seeing a bloke at the Ally Pally show open the boot of his car and pull on full leathers, grab a lid etc while we were walking up the hill. Can't think of anything worse than having bike kit when you don't need to.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 09, 2024 9:01 pm I like going on the train because parking is free and I don't need to lug my motorcycle gear around all day. Been a looong time since I went to the Brummy show. Back then I used to go on trade day for free with my mate who worked at a bike shop. Last show I did was Excel I think, and felt like I paid 20 odd quid to go to a big shop full of last years stock. I feel conflicted, I want to support motorcycling but a lot of it is a bit shit

I’m going.
Coming down on Tuesday, going to the show on Wed and going home on the Thursday.
It’s a couple of days away with the show as a bit of an incidental but I’m looking forward to it. It can’t be any worse than the Scottish Bike Show.

Went today
Set a new record for myself in terms of expenditure, and didn't even need to try that hard to save money! My mate managed to get a free trade day pass off a colleague, so I drove the pair of us up there today... Parked in the Train Station carpark (£12.50 per day, so quite a bit cheaper than NEC parking as well as ironically, a LOT closer to the venue!)...
My mate borrowed a wheelchair as he only had surgery to remove pins from his leg last week, so I pushed him round all day. We turned up, I went to the ticket office to get my ticket, joked if there was any discount as his "carer" for the day, to be told that yes, I got a free ticket for the privilege!!! Bonus!!!
Anyway... Show was alright... A bit better than last 2 years I thought, mostly cos of quite a few new bike models to look at. Trade presence still low, no Piaggio still although a couple of other brands made a notable return. Ducati stand felt a bit lacklustre compared to previous years to be honest. KTM's stand was its usual zero effort affair, albeit with a handful of new models on (dear god I hope they can pick themselves up financially!), BMW as ever put by far the most effort into their stand...
For £12.50 (I paid parking, my mate bought lunch) it was a decent day out... If it cost me my usual 2x tickets at full face value (me and the GF), parking and all food/drink (so around £100) then I'd be feeling pretty short changed as per usual again sadly.

I'm going to The Good Food Show next door, with my Mum
The BBC Good Food Show!
I work for a company with a stand, I've really missed a trick here. I should have volunteered and sneaked out to the bike show, all expenses paid!

Re: Motorcycle Live - meh or yeah?
I’m working there on Thursday, National Highways stand. Me and one of the other managers use it as an excuse to go most years, look at bikes we can’t afford, buy cheap gear if there’s anything worth having, and sit in Spoons for lunch while we text out table number to various senior managers to see who will buy us a beer!! Can’t see this year being any different to any other.
Horse, you working there again??

Mon Tues Weds Sat Sun, so you'll have to survive without me *sob*
I was on the NH stand this afternoon. The latest BikerTek is there. 'Building' on the spare parts theme of the previous campaign, there's a bike customised with body armour - titanium surgical metalwork of the type holding my neck together.
