Re: Oh, is that another KTM ? Really ? Are you sure ? Is this the one and only keeper ?
So i've had a few chats with various options and discussions and there's 2 struggles/issues.
1. I do LOVE the 690
2. The finances don't really work out.
So the plan is now made and set in stone with "Bike stays and goes to KTM when they re-open for further investigation"
Move on, job done... it stays.
So here's the question.

I'd hold off of buying either as we all know you're never going to put up with fault lights coming on at random. If your dealer was open I doubt this thread would have got this far!
Okay if pushed the can over the decat. I don't like the look of most OEM cans and the KTM one is no exception.

Put a piece of black tape over the fault light, out of sight out of mind.
Known as 10 second Tommy (which has nothing to do with drag racing)
Also 2 stroke Tommy (which has nothing to do with motorcycles)

So i bought the Cat converter from Leo VInce.
The Cat is almost 6kg so it's a massive saving of weight, along with being a LOT tidier and also giving the ability to change the oil without getting it all over the Cat.
The one irk i have when people do this conversion is that they leave the bracket that holds the Cat in place.

If you look by the front of the engine you can see it there.... It's an easy removal job but needs a spacer installing.

Re: Oh, is that another KTM ? Really ? Are you sure ? Is this the one and only keeper ?
Skills. Please post up
a) what the noise is like
b) how it runs.
I've been so close to buying one of those several times. The running/fuelling is my biggest concern. Mine runs faultless so I don't want to mess it up. The Leo de-cat appeals as it has the pre-silencer and matches my silencer. There was one on ebay for just over a ton but went for silly money in the last few minutes.
Being able to change the oil would be much easier too.

SO it arrived and is fitted. It even comes with the spacer for removing the bracket.

It also mounts with a rubber mount which allows a bit of flex, the cheaper straight trough versions don't.

Looking down it, it has baffling built into it, so the pre-silencer is actually defined rather than just a 'shape' built into the can, it has a proper baffle function to it.

The trickiest part is getting the gaskets in for the junction points, they're REALLY tight fit and it's a proper faff, but far from impossible.
Note, the error for ABS+MTC wasn't there again
Noise wise, tough to say, i've done 50m in the close to the end, then back again 50m. You can notice the noise more on the throttle-off, but i think once you hit 5000rpm you also get more noise compared to stock too. But unlike the full straight through, it's not making your ears bleed when riding.
However, until this lockdown ends, i won't really know more.
All in all, very happy.

Reminded me of when I put a decat pipe and end can on mine, it was indeed a pita as, iirc, you had to twist it about to line it up and then the gasket kept moving or suchlike. I do recall thinking that such a simple job was a PITA. A few BRAAAPS later and IDGAs though! ;D

Don't like the noise/pitch to be honest...
IT's off and boxed up to be either sold to Mofo on here or thrown on ebay tonight.
I can see why others would like it, but nah, not for me.

Pity you didn't get on with it, didn't sound too far off stock which is surprising as I didn't think the OE can had much baffling. Looks much better. Will let you know as I said on PM

Some days, things just work out perfectly.
Lovely lovely sunny day, warm, dry, nice.
Mrs Weeksy wakes up and says "Farm shop opens at 8, we need meat"
Farm shop is about 3 miles away, nearest supermarket is 7.. So i'm taking that as OK
2020-04-11_08-28-09 by Steve Weeks, on Flickr
The bike worked perfectly, the ride was superb, twisty fun back-lanes... Everything seemed to flow lovely... Just all top class.
Coming back wasn't quite as nice with 15kg of meat in my rucksack weighing me down and throwing the balance of the bike off
But still, all in all, fantastic morning, if a little on the short side

Re: Oh, is that another KTM ? Really ? Are you sure ? Is this the one and only keeper ?
Nowt wrong with that Weeksy...I'm trying to come up with ideas for essential bike use, car is sorned. Gonna do a prescription pick up for the outlaws next week, from there doctors place to there home. Also, getting short of paracetamol, that's an essential run, if you've got an headache.
On a separate note.. I wouldn't mind helping distribute some of the ppe there having trouble spreading about various parts of the country. Plenty of bored furloughed workers with BIKES / cars parked up. Not sure how much I could carry but every little helps.
