My mum got me some of their sprout ketchup for Christmas a few years ago. It was interesting, but not actually that strange.

The wife got it from the Aldi special buys!! I wanted some for ages but wouldn't pay p&p to buy it from their website.

A bench grinder. A bench grinder with 10" wheels. It doesn't slow down in use, and takes over three minutes to come to a stop after the power is turned off. Marvelous.

How much are they charging for the Ortiz sardines? (I've been buying 20 can packs from The Fish Society - lasts us between 6 to 9 months). The price has gone skyward.

I *think* they were £4.20 but with a nectar card it brought them down to £3.50.

That's a price. So I just popped into my local Sainsbury's to see if I could snag some.

I would add, don't discount the Parmentiers if you haven't yet tried the. They have good lumps of sardines in their tins!

I really want those for mine too. I have a hand wound one which is fab but even that takes up too much space in my place. One day when I have a bigger kitchen (space to use and store stuff!), those are on the list

I used a professional pasta roller in a hotel kitchen once. It was fantastic and so much easier than hand cranking. Figured I'd treat myself.

Then I looked at the price.

I'm still hand cranking my pasta.

Hand cranking pasta is so last year! Obviously I’m hand mixing and kneading the dough before it heads into the spinning rollers of death!

My last hand crank pasta roller ended up getting launched out of the kitchen door towards the bin as it contaminated the pasta with grease from the mechanism, I’d fastidiously kept it clean and dusted with flour in use but a oily streak appeared throughout the dough seconds before take off.

They are awkward bastard things to use as well as the lip on the worktop edge wasn’t deep enough for the clamp to hold it fast, so you needed four hands to use it, one to turn the handle, one to hold it steady, one to feed in the dough and the last to draw the rolled pasta sheet out onto the kitchen worktop.

Viva the revolution of the pasta roller / cutter!!

I have an easy solution to the pasta roller problem.

I actually prefer good ol' hard durum wheat dried packet pasta to the fresh stuff - which always has a texture that seems designed for people who have lost their dentures.

Tough ol' Nonna uses a huge rolling pin, and laughs in the face of pasta machines.

I have a photo of the Gremlinette from many years ago when we were in Puglia. There was a woman with a basketball-sized of pasta dough on a kitchen table sat outside in the evening cool. She was deftly rolling a 'tail' from the ball, then using a spoon to flick off perfectly formed oreccihette into a bowl next to her foot. She invited the kid to sit next to her and give it a go, and in fairness, she made a few good 'uns. Quite pleased with herself, she was.

I asked Nonna if it the dough had egg in it. Big mistake, as she held up three fingers and indignantly listed, 'FARINA! SALE! ACQUA!'.

That'll be a no to egg then...

I adore fresh pasta. I would eat it quite regularly if I could make it here but it's such a process in a teenytiny kitchen that I've given up now.

I always wanted to make colourful pastas - on the plan for when/if I move!! LOL

Was pleasantly surprised how nice they are for the money. Well balanced and the blades are keen as you like.

Just ordered a new paring knife and serrated knife from the same range, plus a magnetic block as my current Boden one is looking a bit knackered, plus once you've put the knife away it's not immediately apparent which knife is which.
