That's a real shame. Knowledgeable chap on many subjects. I know he clashed with a few people and certainly knew how to yank chains, but I liked the guy. I spoke with him recently and i think forum life was spilling into his real life and not in a good way. Shame when pixels turn into poison...

AFAIK I never met the guy, and sometimes the on-line persona and back story didn't seem to add up, but he was interesting. A reincarnation seems quite possible, after a decent interval.

He's left/flounced multiple times over the years IIRC.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:18 pm .A reincarnation seems quite possible, after a decent interval.
He does seem to get mixed up in real life somehow repeatedly, I'd have stopped posting too TBH.

Some folk deal with the ups and downs of Social media better than others. There's a lot of folk out there who really shouldn't go anywhere near it.

Thank for letting us knowPirahna wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 7:13 pm For those than don't look on the current affairs section, Potter has left the building.
He posted on the Forum section asking to be deleted, posted on the Trump thread praising Bwana and Screwdriver and then he was gone and all his words of wisdom along with him (unless they're been quoted).
That sucks

A deletion request normally means some spanner has been chasing him down in real life.

Re: In todays light hearted look at the (non-political) news
In light-hearted, non-political financial news, weak Euro data has pushed GBP/EUR to 1.20.
Whereas we could wax lyrical about how this impacts the Euro-economy, I will simply limit it to saying that you might want to change a few quid into euro on your Revolut card (or similar, other pre-pay cards are available) if you have a little holiday to Euroland planned any time soon. Rate will probably retreat soon.
You're welcome.
Usual caveats apply, i.e., don't blame me if you change up your life savings and it goes tits up.

OTOH another, not-well-respected source (I think it was GB News) was suggesting it will hit 1.40 as the German economy tanks.gremlin wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 10:04 am In light-hearted, non-political financial news, weak Euro data has pushed GBP/EUR to 1.20.

If that does happen (and pigs can actually fly) it will only mean the GBP/EUR rate returning to levels that existed before the Brexit referendum was announced. GB News positively wet themselves with delight about any bad news coming out of €uroland.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 11:14 am OTOH another, not-well-respected source (I think it was GB News) was suggesting it will hit 1.40 as the German economy tanks.

I work in Germany 2012 - 2020. When I started the exchange rate was 1.19 to the GBP, it dropped as far as 1.13 and then rose again to 1.16. When I left being full time in Germany I negotiated my salary at 1.17 euros to the GBP.
Then throught out the next few years it varied between 1.11 and 1.17.
If Brexit affected the GBP it was for a short time.
It did affect the GBP against the dollar and the Euro against the dollar.
Now, when I moved to CH, the Euro was at 1.45 to the GBP (2002) - that was a big fall
