Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
ive got a new longer stem coming today, going to fit and test it, am not 100% sure it will work as its only an extra 10mm (now 90mm instead of 80mm)
I am hoping it will allow me to bring the seat forward slightly more than now and make peddling better, we will see.

Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
Interesting to see if you get any downsides from the handling, but i'm not sure 80>90 will make a massive difference in that context.
Today i've hopefully got new water bottles arriving for local rides. I'm having a bit of a mare with water solutions since fitting the new shock. The extra reservoir on the shock body means i can't fit a water bottle, so i bought a Topeak relocation bracket, but that's still wrong for a bottle. So i've bought some 400ml bottles to hopefully get them in.
Looking back, i should have come up with a different plan on the shock, but i really thought it'd all fit nicely still. However finding a shock of the right size of 216*63 would still have been incredibly tough without the extra reservoir.
If these don't work, i'm not sure i have a plan B, well techincally i'm on about plan F at the moment anyhow.

it seems to have worked. `And I have no idea whey it was an issue?
what is the issue that you are trying to solve??formula400 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:07 am ive got a new longer stem coming today, going to fit and test it, am not 100% sure it will work as its only an extra 10mm (now 90mm instead of 80mm)

10mm will make very little difference
Back in the old days , we used to have 150 mm stems on, with narrow handlebars - it was like riding a shopping trolley ...

Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
right I am not sure how to explain this, so here goes. i feel I am slightly too far back on the bike, just been playing with seat position. I feel I have got it all set up pretty decent at the moment, but want to see if I can improve it.
I only went for an extra 10mm as a lot of what ive read says to try small steps rather than large one. so lets see
ive got my seat quite far back, and I still feel a little upright, so maybe with this stem, I can bring the seat forward slight and still have a slightly longer reach.
now ive been reading a few things and ill try it and if its no good I can send it back. it might just all be in my head, but might as well try,

also just fitted some Shimano sm540 spd peddles, I had a set of the 520's on before but had some store credit to use.

Move the seat forward before you do anything - that make you sit “in” the bike.
The old way to have the seat back as far a possible - and then even layback posts ....
Modern geometry means this is old skool

with the seat more forward it feels to squashed, hence trying the longer stem

Don't forget that dropping the stem down the stack (if possible) achieves the same thing. If you're already slammed you can't do it, obviously, but if you have a spacer or two there then it's well worth a try as it extends your reach without having it way out in front as it would be on a long stem.

Another thing to think about is the effect it will have on your muscles / hamstrings.
When I had my bike fitting the saddle position was dictated by my position over the cranks, the reach was then adjusted by the stem / bars.

Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
Was sorting the G-160 after a tough weekend of riding. When we were out yesterday the lever on the back brake was coming further and further back all ride. Not sure if it was the pads, or the surface/mud from yesterday, but i have no rear pads in at all. Threw in a new set and realised i have next to no pads in spares. So ordered 4 sets of Uberbike pads. Then thinking that order had not gone through, i ordered 4 sets of Noah and Theo pads too, so i've now got 8 spare sets of pads LOL.

Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
Cleaned the road bike after yet another filthy ride on Saturday. Took the chance to top up the sealant in the rear tyre after it did it's thing (again!) following a visit from the PFs that made me get off and rotate the hole to the bottom and let Stan do his magic. I'm really impressed with the Schwalbe Ones/Stans combo that I'm running and, as usual following a moment, I had a look around the tyre and seeing the state of it I know that any tubed road tyre would have been toast weeks ago.

Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
Not done yet but have bought a Nukeproof Horizon stem (35mm) and a Nukeproof Neutron alloy handlebar (38mm rise).
The current bar is very low and wide, great for that “attacking stance” that I don’t really seem to use, but bad for my neck, shoulders and back so hoping a shorter stem and narrower bar might help. Current bar width is 800mm whereas my Whyte T-130 was slimmed to 740mm and felt good.

Re: What have you done to your bicycle today ?
Pedalling home from the station this morning I couldn't lock into one of my Time pedals. When I got home it had lost its roll pin holding the spring for the cleat in which meant the spring had disappeared. Fortunately I had an old spare set of pedals with shagged bearings I was able to remove the pin and spring from and fit to the pedal with missing bits. Hopefully it'll hold together.
