Is KTM in financial trouble?

Post by mangocrazy »

This guy seems to think so. I have no idea of his background or if he is a reliable source (or not), but some of the sales and share price figures he mentions are pretty scary (57% drop in share price, value of the company declining from $3 billion to $1 billion). What do you think?

There was a big Covid-induced drop in 2020, but the decline in 2023 and 2024 is a worry.

You'd think if KTM were in trouble, then Motogp participation would be cancelled. They still seem to be spending their arses off without any sign of pulling their horns in.

From what I understand, Red Bull provide most (if not all) of the MotoGP spend, so as long as RB keep putting up the money, KTM keep racing. It's notable that there won't be GasGas branding in MotoGP next year though.

Its a shame if they are as they've made some of the best street bikes out there, but at the same time it serves them right if people have abandoned them as their bikes aren't exactly known for reliability and their customer service is legendary for all the wrong reasons. I'd rather they survived fwiw...

I'd hate to see them go under (although frankly I doubt that would happen), but their approach to customer care with regards to recent 790/890 camshaft problems does seem pretty cavalier. You can get away with stuff like that in the short term, but in the longer term it will bite you hard in the arse.

Nah. Hang on for the bankrupt stock sale.

Hmm. If they do go down the tubes who might swoop in and buy the company on the cheap? Another bike company or the usual asset strippers in fund management? Chinese? Indians?

Which they could probably make bigger quite quickly I guess. Although the China economy is a bit wibbly at the moment. I'm sure the brand will survive one way or another though.

My mates going to be heartbroken.

I think he’s had 6 and still has 3 of them in his garage. With not a spot of trouble from any of them.

More indicative of the trade on the whole right now I'd say... Of course mine isn't an expert opinion, nor do I have any real insider information, but I do know that pretty much everyone is struggling in the motorbike trade right now, and that an over-inflated share price from 2022 when the world had been busy spending it's expendable cash on luxury goods rather than travel for the best part of 2yrs straight, means very little now given a current market correction.

For sure though, the cavalier attitude to the 790/890 cam wear issues will have hurt them, but beyond that, KTM's brand reputation is stronger than ever reliability wise and their dealers continue to move good volumes of bikes, even if they are often at the mercy of KTM's constantly moving expected purchase prices on new bikes...

Ouch.

He does quite a few miles, going to Shetland in a few weeks and the continent shortly after that.
He’s a real fanboy.

Actually if my wife gives up pillion and I need a lighter bike a nice 890 or similar would appeal greatly to me.
