Crash Helmets - returns policy?

Post by Taipan »

The annual dilemma/horror of what do you want for Xmas has landed at my feet again. So, I thought I'll get a new lid, but of course the shops are shut and trying on isn't possible. Seen one I like at J&S accessories, but if the fit isn't right, can you return crash helmets? Can't see anything that say you can't but can't see anything that says you can either? Anyone bought a lid from them and returned it?

I can't imagine not being able to return a helmet.
The shop will set the lid aside for 72 hours before putting it back on sale.
Even shops which are open don't allow you to try stuff on,you must take the item home, then return it if not happy.

This allows a shop to keep track of gear which has been tried on.

Helmet City were fine about me returning a helmet because it was too small so long as I hadn't worn it on the bike.

I grabbed myself a second GT Air 1 when the GT Air 2 came out then, when it arrived it seemed a little small so I phoned them and they said wear it around the house for a while (I think they gave me a month) and if you still dont like it, sure - full refund. I actually swapped round the old cheek pads with the new cheek pads and ended up with two really comfortable helmets.

J&S and Helmet city were both open before this Nov lockdown and were giving people thin balaclava type hoods to try on helmets

Sportsbike shop are not only fine for returns on helmets, but they're free to return too

Helmet city don't pay for return postage.

Some branches of Infinity are still open as they now sell a range of Fantic E bikes which allows them to trade as a cycle shop as well thus making them "essential trade". I assume the sale of motorcycle clothing will still be allowed

My local branch is shown as open 7 days a week 10am to 4pm

I bought an Arai from Sportsbike Shop last night, 20% off in the Black Friday sale. Thats quite a sizable saving on a £500 lid...

Fortunately for me there's a Sportsbike Shop branch here in MK, so I'm doing click and collect tomorrow. I'm not allowed in the shop to try it on, so I'll just try it on in the carpark and take it straight back inside if it doesn't fit right :D

Tell me about it.. When i couldn't get the Arai i wanted due to it not being available until a couple of weeks ago, i'd kinda settled on the Shoei i have now. But then it's now again and i can get the Arai and not only that, but i can get it for £420 in Sportsbikeshop... Which is a very good price.

I'd semi-promised i'd buy it for myself for my 50th... but can i wait that long !!!

If you can afford the extra money it will cost ;)

My eldest step lad wants to get back on bikes next year and had been looking at the Arai Debut helmet at 299 quid which is the base model full face. Just sent him a link as its now 239 for black friday

IIRC you were looking at the Arai I ended up buying...the Rapide? The one which is kinda retro but its still a full face modern Arai.

I need a helmet which looks OK on an old Triumph but it I didnt want to go full retro cause I still want full face etc. Ended up with yellow Arai.
