Re: Whatever Happened To...
I know what happened to one of them. James Bolam lives in Wisborough Green and I see him going shopping quite often. He used to go in the bathroom/tile shop for a chin wag and to blag a cuppa until the shop changed hands. Saw him with his missus (Susan Jameson) a couple of times but haven't seen her for ages. Mind yew, they are both 89.

Lions MIdget Gems were made in a small factory in Cleckheaton. Very formal, very correct - and you were always refered to as "Mr ..." . And served tea in China cups.DefTrap wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 2:13 pmI dunno about Lions (Lyons?) Midget Gems but you can certainly get Maynards ones, and I'm sure I've see Asda / Tesco ones.
Cotter pins for bicycle cranks are best left burning in a fiery hell along with all crank assemblies that involve loose bearing and finesse adjustment (See also Sturmey Archer 3-speed gears)
They made gums with the hardest gel strength in the world. They were utimately bought by Cadbury

Must be a regional thing I spose as I was very familiar with sweetie shops as a youngster and those ones would have very much been on my list.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 5:12 pm Lions MIdget Gems were made in a small factory in Cleckheaton. Yeah, that's literally the end of civilisation as we know it.The Martian wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 12:25 pm "There's nothing worse than some old bugger on the internet reminiscing about turns of phrase that are no longer popular"

Caused by undernourished dogs. Now they all get fed proper and not on just salt laden scraps
