Whatever Happened To...
This thread is for those moments when you suddenly realise that something that was ubiquitous several months or years ago seems to have disappeared.
I'll start: Whatever happened to people saying "There's nothing worse than..." followed by some minor inconvenience like "...breaking a nail" or "...getting stuck in traffic" and never "...the end of civilisation as we know it" or "...the heat death of the universe"? I once had a colleague tell me five things there was nothing worse than in the space of about 10 minutes. I don't hear it any more.
Maybe the people who used to say it got fed up with people like me pointing out how silly they sounded.
Or maybe they started avoiding me.

Whatever happened to top tips?
I already know the answer, they became life hacks.
Same sort of thing probably occurred with the OP.

Lemon puffs, bloody love 'em buy can't buy them for love nor money.
Screw caps you could take off a bottle, I create more plastic waste pulling the new ones off than I ever did with a good old fashioned removeable ones. (maybe I should have skipped this one as it is political)
The OBDII standard, oh sure ever car has the port, but you can't do diddly without the manufacturers software which kind of defeats the object.

Re: Whatever Happened To...
What ever happened to the plural of "sign" not being "signs" anymore?
Blundering about trying not to make too much of a hash of things.

Re: Whatever Happened To...
I think the distinctions are
- sign; one sign
- signs, more than one
- signing; the layout / plan for multiple signs
- signage; signs and associated posts, frames, etc.

When I was living in the van in France I used to regularly buy a pack of biscuits/cookies that were a "scandinavian" oats and "something sticky" biscuit sandwich with a thin layer of chocolate between them. Damned if I can find them anywhere - even on the online shops for the very same supermarkets I used to frequent in France. It doesn't help that I can't remember the name.
Ikea sell the same things, but only in huge packets, and I don't visit Ikea any more. (they don't sell food online).

I can't find anything similar in any supermarkets.

Re: Whatever Happened To...
I have been known to visit IKEA just to buy biscuits. Quite a lot closer for me though
The little marzipan cake things they do are aces. Only topped by the same thing from fancy bakeries in Copenhagen

I'm complaining here - but conversely I'm not prepared to go into the centre of Portsmouth just for biscuits....Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 1:09 pm I have been known to visit IKEA just to buy biscuits. Quite a lot closer for me though

Re: Whatever Happened To...
I dunno about Lions (Lyons?) Midget Gems but you can certainly get Maynards ones, and I'm sure I've see Asda / Tesco ones.
Cotter pins for bicycle cranks are best left burning in a fiery hell along with all crank assemblies that involve loose bearing and finesse adjustment (See also Sturmey Archer 3-speed gears)
