Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Hope so, only odd thing for me is the whole torque setting for the filter! I'd normally just do it hand tight. The book says 20nm. The HiFlo filter says 'Do not use the nut on the end for fitting" but it does go on to say unless specified. In the end I did it up as tight as possible by hand and then did a bit more with the socket. I don't have any lockwire anymore but will stick a mark at 12 o'clock on the filter.

I'm pretty sure once the engine gets hot they kind of seal themselves.

I put a HiFlo on the Beemer a couple of weeks back, no nut, but I was impressed that the rubber seal came pre-lubed!

Don't know if mine was pre lubed as my brother opened it (and got it in place) but the packaging said lube with oil so presume not. Either way it got pre lubed with fresh Castrol fully synthetic.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:56 am I put a HiFlo on the Beemer a couple of weeks back, no nut, but I was impressed that the rubber seal came pre-lubed!
I'd forgotten that the Castol race is red until I opened it. I used to use it all the time in the track R6 but switched to KTM stuff in the misguided hope it'd look after the rocker arms!

My filter had a cellophane wrap over the seal that you had to pull off before fitting.

I've only ever hand tightened a spin on filter. Once it stops freely spinning about an 8th or so more by hand. Never had a leak or one come loose etcSupermofo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 8:21 amHope so, only odd thing for me is the whole torque setting for the filter! I'd normally just do it hand tight. Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Me too. On the GSXS forum some people seem to think the torque setting is due to the type of sealing ring on the OE part?? Other say its in the manual so do it regardless. I sort of went in the middle. Hand tight and a little more with a socket. The OE filter that came off wasn't overly tight and came off easily enough unlike a lot I've had in the past where they've been welded on!Taipan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 12:33 pmI've only ever hand tightened a spin on filter. They do all seem to get put on by ham fisted apes! I cant recall ever taking one off easily. Actually, thinking about it, some of them were put on gently by me!?Supermofo wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 12:39 pmMe too. As I nipped it with a socket I was wondering if this'll be me in 12 months time. I'll have to hit myself over the head with a rachetTaipan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 12:58 pmThey do all seem to get put on by ham fisted apes! I cant recall ever taking one off easily. Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
Woohoo, looks like I have Sunday without the Mrs and kids so I can go out on my bike all day Currently the weather is looking fandabibozy too
Hmm. Where to go. I always tend to go East, but then that works with nice places to visit by rivers/coast. Currently thinking Heybridge, Manningtree, Shotley Gate (worth a visit?), Hadleigh, Sudbury, Sible Hedingham, home. Bout 160 miles.
Or could to Dunwich, or maybe Frinton for some chips?
Anyone that way fancy a mooch about?

Shotley Gate is alright, lovely view of my work on both sides, roads a little bumpy and a lot of 30 limits on it.

Maybe miss it out then, just do Manningtree and then go north west from there

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
That's what I would do, depends on what you want, Felixstowe or Harwich have more to offer, the roads are better and each would take about the same time to get to as Shotley.
If you go from Manningtree to Harwich there are two good roads, the back way through Ramsey (tight and twisty) and the main road to Horsley Cross (wide sweeping bends).
You could go Mannigtree, Harwich, Walton/Frinton/Clacton and then use the A120 to get back to the A12, if you go through Thorpe Le Soken watch out for the huge pot holes in the High Street.
There's a bikers cafe on Walton sea front that's an experience.

I really must drag my bike out and ride some local roads with you guys, I've only ridden to the MOT centre and back this year!

I don't even need a destination, I'm happy riding and seeing where I end up.

Re: GSXS 1000 - Mofo's Gixxus
I've been so tied up with work around the home for nearly 2 years, I've barely ridden. I need to get the bike serviced and my arse back on the thing.
