I just had a look at the Smart Top UK site, they don't mention my SL (R231), must have been a different make I was thinking of, I'm sure it was £500+ and needed some splicing.Silly Car wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 11:22 am Remote operation was an option on the SLC. Mine had, according to Autotrader advert, over £4k of options, £1,000 of which was satnav but didn’t include that, I’ve got heated full leather seats, air scarf and panoramic roof as well.
Thankfully it has wired Android Auto and CarPlay so I can just use navigation apps on my phone.
Smart top is around £400 supply only and is fully plug and play, most people on the SLK/SLC forum I’ve found quote around an hour to install, the version for the R170 SLK was much more invasive and included tapping into and cutting the ECU loom which I wouldn’t want to do.

UK site didn’t list the R172 model item but the US mods4cars does, you can then search by part number on the UK distributor’s main site, design911.

A snip at £470
Mine was £386 inc vat & delivery.

FWIW, I found it here.

Delivery was pricey, but rapid.

I was late to the party for guessing, but that's a cool purchase. I wonder how I ever did without my Skylift, ramps and the like save the old back and knees so much.

Got me a Summer Pass to the Canyon Club that covers ALL events through Sept 2nd..
So Petty tribute band in a couple of weeks, followed by W1P on the 27th who will be doing The Wall in it's entirety, followed by other Floyd stuff, last time I saw them play The Wall they followed up with most of DSOTM.
Then in August there's a ZZTop tribute band & a Skynyrd band.
I'll probably give the midget wrestling a miss...

One for the sandal wearers.
My v old Birkenstocks appear to be falling apart so I looked for some new ones (Arizona). Found out they're made in China*, the straps aren't leather and the construction has changed...but bought a pair on Amazon. While I was on there I saw some Fitory, near identical, made in China...and half the price, so bought a pair as well.
They're near identical only better in a couple of areas inc. better footbed, more comfy.
Currently on Amazon (Prime day) the Fitory's are £25. Birkys are £70+ At that £25 price I can have pairs to match all my socks.
*Edit - just spotted it says 'Made in Germany' on the footbed. Dunno why Amazon had China...maybe the footbed isn't made there.

Some Ancho and Guajillo chillies, for making Carne con Chile*. They're dried peppers/chili, not particularly spicy but they smell amazing. Imagine a pepper rasin and you're not far off.
Weirdly the thing the smell reminds me of more than anything is (unlit) pipe tobacco.
*pretentiously different to Chili con Carne of course

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
I have some new planet killing Merrel sandals as my earlier eco friendly made from recycled plastic soled ones kept letting bits of blackthorn or flint through whilst I was trekking over the Downs.

Re: The Official Pleasing Purchase Thread
This made me laugh. But only cos someone was slightly critical of my casual shoes the other week, apparently they looked like shoes that were worn for PE at school (they don't look like anything I wore for PE, but he was at school 20 years later than me! )Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 9:54 am One for the sandal wearers.

I looked at his feet and just replied with - how can you criticise my shoes when you're wearing Sandals!!
His reply was along the lines of - how dare you, these are Birkenstocks
They just look like sandals to me!
