Easy boy.

I was going to comment as I think this isn't helping, but then again, it's just a disagreement, nothing out of order here at the moment.

Moderation can go both ways, too lenient or too harsh.
I was commenting on the whole thread, not one reply.
You set up this thread to stop arguing, and folk were arguing in it.

Sure, there's a bicycle section too. I post in there lots and ride pretty much every day.

Did you used to have a bike? If not, how/why did you find this and previous forums?
Did some work for a chap on TRC. Probably best if I don't say who!

But this thread is specifically for "what to do with current affairs/politics" isn't it?

That was the thread yes.

Funnily enough, nothing in it has made me want to open the section ever again.

I don't think it's censorship, even if it was it's not my place. I totally get not bringing this place into disrepute is a big deal.

I think the politics subforum is fine. I think some leeway for 'opinion' is fine in there because otherwise it's boring. I think some slagging is fine in there because, again, otherwise it's boring, and it's by nature an emotive subject.

But if weeksy is harassed by idiots reporting posts because they don't like the content or they have decided some fruity slagging is bullying they yeah I get that that would be a pain. I didn't see much in any of those threads worth reporting - a lot I disagreed with or were hypocritical or were nonsense though.

Again, it's not my place. It's not my call. I can chat about bikes n shit til the cows come home. If you're going to allow politics, I'm bound to argue - especially as most of you seem to be intolerant right wing bellends in your old age. ;)

Since it was locked, the place has become a happier place with a buzz and far more content.

And the usual suspects have gone somewhere else.

I hadn't noticed the place being particularly unhappy previously, but perhaps that's because I seldom bother with the politics end of things and I missed the action? If there was evil afoot,it didn't flow into the other parts of the forum I read.

I'm simple terms, it wasn't nice. I didn't like it and it went.

To add a bit here. As I've said before, I'm trying and we're trying to bring back a community, a spirit, a nice place to visit. That wasn't it, that was people getting angry, shouty and abusive.

Pretty much my view, I looked in there now and again, yeah I saw some (same old same old ) arguments and maybe one or two digs or very mild insults gently bowled but nothing I saw was anything worth mentioning, and as you say, didn't see it leaking out into the rest of the forum, so I do wonder how bad and how much hassle it could possibly be with what I would have thought could only really be a small bunch of whingers.

I'm not really missing that area being closed to any massive degree but does seem a shame to me and a loss as its effectively outlawed subjects such as Covid, or almost any headline news which does lessen the value and interest of the forum - they are everyday parts of life , and are of interest to some extent for most people.
Although I wouldn't be a big contributor in most of those sort of threads, I would find at least some of it (and the robust debate / arguing that could ensue) interesting and/or entertaining, shame they can't continue where they are just with a clear yellows then red, or just straight red card type system- no discussion or debate on those decisions entered into, etc

Anyway,I guess the bottom line is we of course don't get to see Weeksy's inbox so don't have the full picture, but that's irrelevant anyway really, he's set it up and runs it so is his decision of how much arguing or hassle is too much, you've done a great job with this place matey, and as others have said, it is a very friendly, entertaining and interesting place if you like bikes, which is what is was set up to be, and long may it continue

You make some good points. So I've opened it on a trial basis. We'll start with 1 week and see.

I wasn't much bothered about it being closed either. There's other things to do, other threads. I tend to engage with posts from the last day or so max, so if it's popular and interesting maybe I'm in there, if it's not I won't. I'm almost never going to engage in racing or cycling threads so I have no idea what goes on in there and I don't really care.

To be honest if there's a load of right wing toads in the politics forum setting out their nonsense as if it was fact then I'd almost certainly have a pop. What I find odd is that so many either (a) are such big Jessies about it (b) get offended on others behalf.
