I think the headlight is the best thing. Dead cool, and 80s Tokyo, like an early NSR250.

That fairing is as much use as a chocolate fire guard
It does a pretty good job, it is a half faired bike after all. I had a blast on it down Pembrey on the weekend and it was excellent.

If anyone wants one of them Trumpets, Fowlups are knocking out pre-reg ones at almost £5k off.

I called into the bike shop today at lunchtime and they had a demo bike outside, I was offered a ride but it was nippy and I didn't fancy it, I'll go another day when I've got more time.

I did get the chance to have a look over it though and it actually looks pretty good quality, I've been quite critical of it being a mid-range budget bike tarted up but to be fair they've done a good job of it and it looks good close up. They have a standard XSR with the black frame and that somehow looked more budget than the GP version, it didn't look terrible but the GP really did look to be a bit more premium. The forks are gold but quite a light shade so they don't come across like they're trying to pretend to be Ohlins, and the fork tops were a nice copper colour which added to the premium look.

The paint looks great, really bright in the daylight, when I saw it at the NEC the lighting didn't really bring out the red of the Marlboro scheme but in the daylight it properly pops, they've done it properly with an almost fluorescent orange/red like the proper ones were back in the day.
The tank is huge, they've managed to get that 1980s/90s endurance racer big tank and front end feel that was popular back then. If you liked that sort of thing (Exup style) then you'll like this 900GP.

There were no chicken strips so whoever has been testing it can ride - it might have been Niall Mac, they have some of his bikes in at the moment storing them for him whilst he's moving house, so maybe he's been out having a play.

Overall I have to say I was impressed with it in the flesh/daylight, it looks way better than when I saw it at the NEC and to be fair it looks like the bike I wanted it to be, except for the price tag (and lack of fancy Ohlins at that price). The £15k price with exhaust and fairing still kills it for me really, I just don't feel like it's worth it, but it does look nice and I could see myself on a decent secondhand one when the prices come down.

Overall, the pictures of them don't do it justice, it looks way better in the sunshine, and if it rides well, which I read it does, then it looks like a cracking new entry to the market, it's just a bit pricey IMHO.

I thought the one at the NEC had the clip ons under the yoke, I remember it feeling a lot like an EXUP to sit on, that looks more FZR600R, which is a good thing.

I'm wrong, found a picture of it at the NEC and it's the same as that one, bars above the yoke.

It feels a lot like an FZR600 now you mention it, I wonder how it compares dimensions wise.

It's the emotion it stirs for me, it's got all the iconic bits of my youth in there plus an overall OW01 type racer look about it.

As previously stated (to death) it disappointed me that it's not got high end stuff on it, but today in the sunshine it really popped out at me and it looks cracking in the flesh. The Marlboro paint has got that crazy bright almost fluorescent buzz to it.
The pictures don't come anywhere close to showing how nice it really is in decent light.

I'm back to being tempted now, if I sell the Caterham then I might have a punt.

Something about it reminds me of old FZR's from back in the day,but there were far less pot holes & speed camera's back then.
I'd gladly take one out for a spin, but it would be wasted on the roads around here.It would probably spend most of its life on a stand in the house  .

I still haven't had the time to get a test ride, but I've spoken to a man that has, and before his ride he was at least as cynical as me about the suspension and running gear, but he reckons it's loads better than the standard XSR, to the point that he reckoned it wasn't even like the same bike. He said there is nothing wrong with the standard XSR but this GP version feels so much plusher that it's a huge amount better.

Apparently the internals are different, I don't know about the outers, but the GP forks are basically not the same forks as the standard version and he said it's one place where you can really feel the difference.

Unfortunately he said you also feel a difference on your wrists and back, he said it's not quite racer ergonomics but it's definitely sporty and you can feel it, so if you suffer with bad wrists and back then it might end up being not the bike for you.

Overall he had a massive grin describing it and he reckons it's very good, loads better than a standard XSR but because of that it's also a bit more focussed and less of a 'mid-range fits-all 'mondeo' bike, if that makes sense.

I think I'd probably love it as a Sunday morning blast bike, it certainly looks incredible if your heart is in the 80s and 90s bikes, and would make a good ornament.

As i said before, its the firsts bike that's grabbed my attention for absolute years. Even though I don't ride sportsbikes in any shape or forum, I think i'd actually put up with the ergos, if it wasn't for my crippledom. I'll never reach the limits of my x-adv, so the quality of the bouncy bits on this wouldn't bother me, but even if they did, that's easily remedied. As you say, what a cracking bike for a sunny day blast!

This looks quite nice.

Still don't like the Akrapovic, just think it looks a bit pikey.

Does look better. I think it mostly proves that fag packet paint jobs are the bomb. Go full on marlboro with the standard one and it'd look better too.

I get what you're saying and would probably agree about it on most bikes, but I think it looks right on this. It kind of authenticates it?

Looking at how much the demo bikes are being sold for I'm wondering how well this has done this summer...

I've not see a single one on the road.
