QuickQuickQuick Samsung or Pixel?

Post by Horse »

My Samsung S9 is getting flaky, I need to change soon. Latest example was not charging until completely flat and switched off.

Foal changed from S to Pixel a while back. I'm thinking of doing the same. It would be 7 or 7a.

Any big gotchas or things to be wary of?

I swapped to pixel for my current phone, a 7+ or pro or whatever it's called. I'm really happy with it. Nice screen, battery seems to last for ever. I reckon I could go for 4 or 5 days before it really needed a charge.

It does a few things different to the samsung S8 I had previously but fiddling in the settings got it to where I like it.

I'd have another Pixel.

I'm on an almost two year old 6a, it does everything I need easily, I'm yet to find the CPU/Memory lacking. I can't think of anything I'd swap it for... not even a newer one. I'll probably just keep this one until it dies.

I have a Samsung and I'm really annoyed with the whole Samsung account thing, not necessary and I won't have another.
My wife had a pixel and I found the UI unnecessarily different to vanilla android, I'd rather learn that than have Samsung spamming me with offers so I'd go pixel.

But the Pixel is vanilla android, you can't get anymore vanilla than a Pixel!

I've got a Pixel, a 7a I think. I've had it for about a year. I'm very pleased with it. I think I bought it from John Lyewis!

I've had a Pixel 7 for 2.5 years, the wife changed to an 8 at the 2 year point, before the 7's we both had 4's and I think we might have had the 2's before that, with no issues among any of them.

My 4 bounced down a MTB trail after coming loose from the bars at about 20+mph, the screen did crack but I had issue with it using it for about a year after

I know nowt about pixels, but I changed my old S6 for an A34 last year and it does my job. Really long battery life,I charge it about once a week.

FWIW the chap in an EE store suggested a Samsung A05 as a cheap usable smartphone. I bought one from Argos as EE don't sell phones. I've not had create a Samsung account for it to work as I want. I don't want much from a phone, calls, texts, Signal or similar, and a few random apps. I don't have email set up on it and I don't browse the net either.

I've not tried a Pixel.

Started with a Pixel 2xl, moved onto a Pixel 6XL, now rocking an 8XL, they just work for me, I've no worries about longevity as the 2XL is till being used as a daily personal phone by the wife and it's getting on for 6 years old now.

That's what I thought but hers was different to any other I've had and I used to buy oneplus as they were the most vanilla available at the time.
Maybe Android changed at that point but I found it really awkward to swap between apps and close them.

I had a OnePlus, it used Oxygen OS on top of vanilla Android.

I prefer the OnePlus interface, I found the Pixel lacked features I find really useful on the OnePlus OS so ditched it and went back, and the Pixel fingerprint scanner just didn't work well for me. Had the current OnePlus Nord 2 5G for two years now and it's still perfect for everything I want a phone for, I use the dual sims as well. Hated Samsung, the way they had Samsung-ised Android, immediately got rid of it. On my fourth OnePlus and no plans to change it any time soon, when I do it'll probably be another budget OnePlus - don't see what the high end ones offer for the price uplift really.
