Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
To be honest life for us is good and i dont have any darkness to escape from.
During the first lockdown we both worked part time so had the distraction as well as loads of time to do what we liked. We have a decent sized garden, live in a quiet Norfolk Coastal village where the rest of the UK pays to spend their holiday time and a 15 minute walk to the beach from the cottage.
The missus always has garden or DIY projects to keep me occupied (currently exposing an old brick chimney in the spare bedroom as a "feature" lol)and i have my bikes to play on when i have time away from work or loads of local trails to play on the MTB
I am not working at all this lockdown due to the DVSA shutting us all down so while i am a bit pissed off at the income i am losing (would have paid in full for my Euro trip next year) i am in a far better position than many financially with the pension still coming in so refuse to let it bother me

Three things :
Mountain bike a lot more ( and alter / fret about things than really do not need doing)
Look at the speed triple thinking ‘it looked great in the photos”
Get into arguments with people who try and palm off shit products on eBay ...

And the reality?
You would have a fit!
Mechanically it is good ..
Cosmetically it needs a bit of love - but it is how far do you go. I am still at the stage that some scratches and blemishes at the patina of 25 years of use ...
The rear wheel has a load of minor surface corrosion- so it will be re powder coated when the tyre needs replacing ...
Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
My mental equilibrium is normally very good and I’ve not experienced any feeling “down” issues apart from worrying in general about the effects of the COVID situation on everyone and the global economy. I work at home mostly anyway so things haven’t changed much for me, and I have been stupidly busy with work since first lockdown (which is why I haven’t been on here at all since then). So I really do count my blessings when I find myself having a bit of a whine, because I currently have not much to complain about. However, I do still wake up in the middle of the night stressing about work things and to counter this I always give myself a bit of cognitive behavioural therapy (“fuck ‘em” and “life’s too short” etc) Having a glass of wine while cooking dinner helps with this form of CBT too

Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
This year is a weird one for me as anxiety has been a huge problem for me since most know what happened, it’s led to depression quite a few times as well and something I just have to live with although I have found ways, but COVID, lockdown, work loss etc hasn’t affected me as I thought it would, it’s still tough at times but it’s made life simpler but I have had my industrial unit to go to which has been a great help even when there was no work. Every weekend we have been out even though it’s to local woods or trail centre just to keep my daughter happy and occupied. I do ride my mtb several times a week and I try for a motorbike ride once a week as these are still a great stress relief. I guess I’m lucky my life hasn’t changed much which is good as I don’t have the capacity for much change which explains why anxiety is an issue when we have more freedom.

Isn’t that one of the things that’s really taken off during lockdown? The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 2:35 pm
And when I get bored with writing? I've treated myself to some railway modelling - something I haven't done since I was 15!

The IT company I work for supports a local specialist wire manufacturer, they make wire suitable for model railway track, the director was telling me they've never made so much of the stuff, he's making a killing on it.

Yep. Hornby are actually turning a profit again! eBay prices have shot up too. Luckily I'd already bought most of what I needed last December so it was there to hand back in April / Maystray cat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 8:51 pmIsn’t that one of the things that’s really taken off during lockdown? The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 2:35 pm

My 6 foot 5, long haired, bearded, ex bike gang member, Harley riding mate was chatting a few days ago and produced a phone pic of his latest hobby....... a massive train set arranged on tables in his spare room. Apparently he had it as a kid, found some in the loft at the start of first lockdown and started building it from there. He is the last bloke i would put down as a train set typestray cat wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 8:51 pmIsn’t that one of the things that’s really taken off during lockdown? The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 2:35 pm

Re: What do you do to get out of the darkness ?
Nowadays I don't get much time to get into the darkness, daughter and granddaughter see to that.
I'm currently working a bit of distance from home so am up early and falling asleep by nine on a night so only have time on a weekend.
The odd Sunday I nip up into the hills nice and early on a morning to where the deer are feeding before tit gets too light. I just kind of potter about quietly and watch them.
At the right time of year the black grouse up there are lecking which I like to hear.
Buggerall birds of prey up there as its close to a working grouse moore and damn nearly everything apart from the odd kestrel and a barn owl have been disappeared.

I have found great solace in identifying things or, better still, people who appear "dead TWOC'y and snide".
I then vocalise this to anyone who happens to be in the environs.

Actually very under rated, whole thing was an enormous and very lucrative piss take. Made enough to not have to worry about where their next pot noodle is coming from.
Lockdown? What lockdown, it's Walk the dog, work, cook dinner, walk the dog again, sleep, repeat for 13 days in a row.
