There are a number of DVD rippers. Handbrake is supposed to be one of the best free ones and should do what you want. It's open source so looks a bit 'techy'. I haven't used it (I used something a long time ago to convert a DVD to a portable file but that was just a bit of techy doodling around, can't remember what I tried - I was looking for something that would do the same for BluRay but failed in that).
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
