The investment company's call them portfolios. AFAIK, it's just having your dosh in different places. 'Diversified' is another of their favourite words.

I did speak to an FA when I first started thinking about this stuff, but it very rapidly became apparent all they would do is tell me to maximise my ISA, pay loads into a pension and then stick money is various funds. I can do that myself for free.
Reality is, I'm simply not wealthy enough to really need their services. I'm a salaryman with a pension, I don't have loads of assets and companies and tax wheezes to think about I've used em a couple of times on a one off basis for a fixed fee and I expect I might do that again at various life junctures.
