I've never known a thread on here have so many people actually agreeing whole-heartedly on a topic before.

Re: Trader wants money after the deal was done
Thanks chaps.
He sent me a photo of some fault codes on a reader this morning. He also phoned me and said I had a moral obligation to pay for any repairs. He mentioned he thought it could be the turbos.
He also now says it went wrong in the first 100 yards. He didn't say that yesterday. It would seem strange if it did go wrong in the first 100 yards he would drive it for about 45 minutes, then phone me to tell me it had gone wrong.
I also spotted one or two other things he has said which I am confident are not true. Details which don't affect the car but he's telling me things which are not true. I am confident he's trying a scam.
I'm not going to give him anything. He's a long way away and I'm not afraid of him in any way.

Just right.

Re: Trader wants money after the deal was done
Nominally you are responsible for giving a fair and accurate description as a private seller. If you knowingly sold a vehicle with a fault and didn't declare it (if asked) at the time of sale you could in theory be liable for it even as a private seller. I would imagine that's extremely hard to prove/enforce though.
This is part of why I wouldn't entertain any discussion. You're suggesting that you know there was a fault.

Nope. I'm unlikely to be seen at the same fancy dress party too.

This “professional” motor trader has bought an old car, from a private seller.
Now he’s moaning about it or just lying about it. Who fucking cares!

Channeling the fierce but very zen beauty of Terry Coldwell.
Re: Trader wants money after the deal was done
When I sold my last car, the fella fiddled around under the bonnet for 5 seconds, then went and started the engine and announced that the alternator wasn't working.
I had a look where he had been fiddling and reconnected the plug that he had disconnected, strangely the alternator was all good again.
He then went on to try and knock me down on price FFS

Another vote for telling him to fuck off.

If it was 100 yards into the journey, why didn't he turn bring it straight back? He should have returned as soon as he saw the light come on. No telling what extra damage he caused continuing to drive it for another 45 minutes.
Like the others say, sounds like he's trying it on.

Lolz. No way would anyone be driving all the way home if an engine light had genuinely come on in the first 100 yards, let alone a trader.

He's bought a secondhand car privately, he knows the risks, ignore.

Re: Trader wants money after the deal was done
I've had variations of this a few times. Most recent was a car that I drove onto their collection guy's beavertail myself. On arrival they claimed that the car's brakes were non-functioning. Told them that they were & heard nothing more.
