LOL.
Ah. 'Normal' standards of discussion have resumed, then?
Oh, sorry. You weren’t joking? :o

Well, I haven't looked at their T&Cs, have you? But actually that wasn't the point., which was that Weeksy doesn't want to risk ending up in court because of what someone posts here.

Evenbrite have, they say, rules, and Weeksy's putting them in place too. That was the comparison.

He owns the site, he's responsible for it. So if he wants to limit or restrict content, then that's up to him, isn't it?

Yes I have (there's a discussion led by a well known lawyer).

In court for what? Even if this forum was the most popular on the internet and even if an entire team of lawyers from eventbrite were hanging onto every word of what has been said, there is nothing libellous or slanderous. Just a statement of fact.

They did unilaterally cancel a protest which had been organised via their services. They did then email every single person to tell them the event had been cancelled when it had not.

That does not square with this from their advertising:

"Eventbrite is the world's largest event technology platform, powering millions of events in 170+ countries and territories. With every app, every update, and every collaboration, we're working hard to make sure that you have the freedom and flexibility to create meaningful experiences without borders or limitations."

As to whether or not they can claim it "violated their T&C" when you look at some of the other "mostly peaceful" protests that use their services? Well, you might as well ask Joe Biden if there had been any election fraud.

What do you expect them to say. I mean seriously...

But even that is not the point (to concentrate on any specific example). The thrust of the argument is that the world relies more and more on big tech, social medias and internet based communications. They are ripe for exploitation by people with a vested interest.

98% of the internet based "big tech" social medias support the Democratic party. It is an extreme bias to say the least and an extraordinarily dangerous situation (imho) to leave unchecked.

You'll need to ask Weeksy. It's what he's said. I'm not sure that he should take your word for it that he would be ok, but it's up to him.

As I said, eventbrite's T&Cs was a comparison. And it's the same comparison for here.

inewham wrote: Sat Nov 14, 2020 1:05 pm All this talk of heavy censorship...

There are basically 3 simple rules
Keep politics in current affairs
Don't make it personal
Don't post content that gets weeksy grief (from the law, his ISP etc)

That's not heavy censorship that's just common sense. I'm genuinely amazed people find it so difficult and onerous
Who is finding it difficult and onerous? I believe the problem is when people start making personal remarks (of which I am not innocent - mistakes were made) but I just want to make sure that comment is not relating to this thread (see title).

I chose my top three polar opposites (CC, Brexit, US election) because they are exactly that. Polar opposites and people will generally have a "side" for example I can't believe Biden is either presidential material or the most popular nominee in history. It would be difficult to shift my perspective on him and I assume equally difficult for "the other side".

Therefore we are left with a debate which may reveal to me why I might be wrong or v.v. Because these issues are so polarised, the extremes reside in both camps (I mean, look at Brexit) so it can quickly descend into absurdity where "if you support Trump you're obviously <insert vicious insult here>".

Those sorts of ad hominem arguments never cease to amaze me and my weakness is, I actually do enjoy getting a good dig in as a response to such absurdity. I have been asked not to sink to that level so I'm going to try and rise above it no matter what provocation.

That is in fact what happened with Eventbrite. The proposed rally allegedly attracted the attention of the far right and the software company decided to cancel the event (for allegedly breaching their T&C). You might think "yeah that's ok with me" but there are two problems with that. Firstly, those extremes will always support one side or the other and secondly, the extreme left wing does not get censored by the media/tech giants. In fact they operate more like their personal militia!

We have seen the result of social media and the press supporting activist groups. I don't want to see that kick off over here in the UK.

Nothing wrong with a healthy debate, everything wrong about censorship.

No I don't. If I cross the line I'll get kicked out of here. We don't need to debate it, that's a fact.

Some folk just want to provoke and argue.

Why?

Just follow my example.

They're actually not my feet, I was sat up doing the steering so couldn't take the picture.
I agree though, they do look like the toes have been glued on, it's a mate from the yacht club, I won't take him again

I don't think I stand back afterwards do I, but you're dead right, I'm the one that tries to stop the negativity, political whining and people that think videos of old men touching kids is acceptable.
Without wanting to get into he-said-she-said circular nonsense that's not how it comes across. Hence why I tend to assume you're on the wind up. If that's genuinely how you're trying to come across in these political threads you might want to think about changing your style.

Personally I think this is all a shame, I love a good argue. I can understand some people want life to be vanilla.

If that's being a drama queen then fair enough.

Some of you are so innocent, you think the internet is a safe place where things won't get used to ruin your life.
And you can use a kitchen knife to stab someone to death or slice a sandwich. You could probably use a sharp spoon.

Point is you can't conflate a discussion regarding the merit or otherwise of a factual event with whatever it was your ex-employee was getting up to. You won't want to share it of course but death threats or threats of personal violence etc. are criminal offences.

So is popping out to the shops with a kitchen knife.

The attraction of having an anonymised forum is that you can keep your person (and your employer) away from contentious debate. A more sinister problem is the insistence by AOC and an increasing number of the democrat party is that there should be a list of all of those who support Trump.

We are straying into politics but it is pertinent. Why would anyone make those lists? Well the idea is to punish those who do not follow the party doctrine. I wish I was kidding but that list is already made and if the Dems get in, they will attempt to use it to form a single party state.

Free speech has never been so important as it is right now. As I know to my own cost, that freedom does come with responsibilities.

Easy boy.

I was going to comment as I think this isn't helping, but then again, it's just a disagreement, nothing out of order here at the moment.

Moderation can go both ways, too lenient or too harsh.

Sure, there's a bicycle section too. I post in there lots and ride pretty much every day.

Did you used to have a bike? If not, how/why did you find this and previous forums?
