That is probably why im not a fan. Keep the top thinner one though. Make a cracking motor for one of them trailer caravans.

The entire Waldoch package was $10k on top of the $30k purchase price from Ford. That included the wood trim inside, leather seats, body kit/running boards, bumpers, overhead console etc. The seller added the tonneau cover, tail gate & 5th wheel hitch in the bed.
If you punch "1996 Waldoch F350" into Google pics of this truck come up. Wondering how long it will be before someone asks if I bought it on the BaT auction site.
mangocrazy wrote: Sun Mar 24, 2024 10:23 am What motor does it have in it? It looks in remarkably good condition for a 28 y.o. vehicle. How many miles has it covered?
133k. It's a 7.3L PowerStroke. It's been parked here now for 4 days, there's not a drip of anything under it. It's done less than 1000 miles/year for the past 7 years. Always parked inside, never driven on salted roads, stored every Winter, one owner from new. It's a total cream puff.

Correction: The damage is by the LEFT front wheel, not the right.

They're called 5th wheels (unless the truck has a gooseneck hitch)

The seller just bought a new F450 crew cab Dually, it's at least a foot taller than this one. The newer ones make mine look like a low rider... altho TBF, I think the Explorer ST might also be taller. I need to park them next to each other to check.

It does look stupidly oversized...but realistically they're not actually that much bigger than a LWB Sprinter or something of that nature, I just looked. I suspect the van would have that truck licked in terms of the largest object you can fit inside it too.

Might struggle a bit on towing capacity comparisons though  F350's are rated to about 8 tonnes :D

Looks ideal as a motorcycle transport. Double cab plus an extra long bed, what's not to like?

Except it is too wide for a lot of UK bridges, and wouldn't fit into any car park spaces.

My friend who picked it up from the seller & parked it at his place for 10 days had convinced his entire family that he'd bought it. They thought he'd lost his marbles as they had an F250 a few years ago that was a total lemon & had sworn off Fords for life.
When I rolled up on Wednesday morning I thought the gig would be up & I'd be witness to a murder scene.
Even the seller was in on the prank & we kept up the ruse while we were all having dinner at a restaurant in town on Wednesday afternoon.
Friend had mentioned to his wife that I was on a road trip & "might drop by". He'd also stated that he had a big surprise for them *next week* when he bought the truck home the day the $$$ cleared into the sellers bank.
Later that night we were all sitting down to dinner at his house when he said "Remember I said I had a big surprise for everyone last week?".. & then handed me the keys.
There was a moment of confusion from his wife, then she cracked up laughing as the truth & relief dawned on her. One of his daughters was there & took it well. The other daughter was at her place a few miles away & was told by her sister on the phone. That one may well hurt him. Son-in-Law was about speechless.
On day 2 of the prank he'd said "I don't know how much longer I can put up with this abuse from my family"
Me: Hello?? It's self inflicted!
There was talk of having him visit the psych dept at the local VA, a suggestion that he buy a cowboy hat with a feather stuck* in it & "side eye" glances over the 10 days & endless verbal abuse.

*I was tempted to roll up wearing a cowboy hat with a feather in it...

Funny you mention that.. I stopped near Palm Springs on the way home for a burger. Pulled into the parking lot to find all the spaces on one side filled with regular cars.. & on the other side were two Tesla's at the FIFTEEN chargers  . I backed into two spots, no sooner had I done that than a Chevy 3500 crew cab long bed did the same thing   Between the pair of us we took up four spots & made it impossible to park at a 5th spot between our trucks. Then we sat on the tailgates eating the food while being scowled at by Tesla owners who pulled in after we'd parked 8-) Not one of them said a fucking word

I'm not sure a Sprinter could manage to move a RR Merlin or P&W R2800 on an engine stand? The stands are about 8ft tall, 8ft long & 4ft wide... plus you need to be able to pick the whole thing up with a forklift. Merlin is 1700lb, plus the stand which probably weighs 700lb or more (45ft of 1/4in wall 6in square tube).
Tow capacity for a new F350 (500hp, 1200ft/lb) is 27,000lb with a goose-neck or 5th wheel hitch.

To be fair, there's not many people who need to move a Merlin around on a regular basis.

Sprinter is probably better for moving lengths of drainpipe or rolls of carpet

there are four in the local Sainsbury's that it would fit, at the same time.

I saw an F250 on UK roads this morning!

It was pulling out of RAF Croughton (big USAF base) and had Federal plates, so I reckon that doesn't count.

The old AF Blue International & Dodge crew cabs from the 60's & 70's are getting to be quite collectable.

I'm thinking of getting a custom license plate frame that says "Your short bed truck is just an appliance dolly" 8-)

WooT!! Got it registered at the DMV today, damn that hurt (AND I had to renew the tags on the ShitBox Honda).

Postie delivered the factory manuals.. that stack is 8in thick. Two volumes of Powertrain/Drivetrain, two more of Body/Chassis & the Turbo Diesel Service Manual Supplement (already had that one).

Topped off the tanks today so now I can figure out the mpg etc...

Total mileage since I picked it up 495.5 miles
Diesel used: 38.87 gal
Cost: $183.77

That gives me 12.747 mpg (I'll be over there in the corner crying a bit)

That's more than I got from my Jeep even after converting to UK gallons, stop being a wuss. ;)
