Green Laning !😜
Green Laning !😜
Hi All
Just joined the forum and posted in the ‘staying alive’ section as an advanced trainer. I’m also a regular on the green lanes around Shropshire and Wales, plus occasionally as far afield as The Himalayas, The Pyrenees and the jungles of Northern Thailand ! Any other green laners on this forum ??.....

Now it's pedalling on an electrically assisted bicycle, I got sick of using the same few legal lanes on a motorcycle and getting hassle for using those, now I go where I like and nobody bats an eye lid, from my house I'm off tarmac in 200 yards and can then go as far as I want without any problems, on a motorcycle the nearest byway was about 2 miles - and I live closer than most people to a byway.
I did get the joke btw

Hi
I think I’m particularly lucky to live in Shropshire !! We’ve got quite a network of lanes not far from where I live and, if I venture a tad further down the road to Oswestry, there’s hundreds of amazing lanes that take us pretty much over to the Welsh coast....where there’s even more !! We’re also blessed by being a very underpopulated county, meaning it’s rare we even see another bike when we have a day out.

Yes, it’s an easy 30 minute ride for me As you may know, there’s some nice riding over there before you even cross the border into Wales...

Yes, I do most of my on road training around Shropshire/mid Wales and we’re definitely blessed with some fabulous tarmac !
I was out training on the A488 yesterday....what a road eh !!??

Great road. Another possible challenging road for trainee's might be the B4358 from Newbridge on Wye to Beulah. Twisty ups and downs.

That’s not one I’m familiar with !?...I’ll take a look next time I’m out that way Cheers At the moment I’m mainly training around a Ludlow, Clun, Bishops Castle, Shrewsbury, Newport kind of loop in order to make sure I don’t stray into Wales ! Once we return to normality I’ll be able to expand the routes again

Re: Green Laning !😜
After reading the @Couchy dairies, it's got me thinking about this again. As Dave says, plenty of lanes around here. It seems like bloody great fun in the shitty months particularly. So my questions are....
Suitable bike, up to 4k.
Any special kit required.
Best club for rides and info.
Thanks in advance.

£4K should buy you a nice trail bike, what you need to do is specify your requirements, how much tarmac riding you'll do, whether you think you're going to move on to doing enduros etc. and also how big and how fit you are.
Personally I'd go for the smallest lightest bike that will meet your needs, for most British trails I found an XR250 to be about right but it was painfully slow on the tarmac in between.

No enduros, just a bit of off road fun in the hills and tarmac to join up and get there. Want something light, 4 stroke and good starter.
