I do with plane boarding cards, but mainly out of habit (and because I can't persuade my missus to put the App on her phone)

Re: It's the rapture!
On a related note, I found an old Oyster* card recently and, as I was working in London that day, thought I'd take it with me just to see if there was any way of getting whatever funds I might've left on there from 2010 or whenever.
Flashed it at a ticket machine and, sure enough, it showed up as a having about 19 quid on there! I was about to see how I could get the cash out before remembering what they're actually for, so just used it instead to get through the barriers! I know! Like it was the last millennium!
It genuinely amused me, like playing a wind-up gramophone in a car, or paying for a pint with a bushel of wheat
*Travel card for London transport/tube etc, for foreigners/Northerners

I bought some train tickets last night for tomorrow via Trainline, and clearly clicked too quickly without looking at the options. Was confused and annoyed that the tickets didn't appear in the app, then noticed it was telling me to print them out at a station. FFS. Like a pensioner.

Google and Apple wallets can both do boarding passes, you don't need the airline app.
They can both also hold "printed" tickets which I've done loads of times for random events with shonky IT. Just store the PDF in the wallet.

Cash is king. I dint have credit cards just my bank and used chip and pin once in my life. I manage to breeze through the checkout at the supermarket with ease while other fumble about with phones looking for pin coded and opening apps. No wait we need to store app now to get you loyalty points. Granny paying by cheque was quicker.
I was at Pink Floyd tribute act in Edinburgh Assembly Rooms last week. When i pulled out £20 to pay for drinks the lass went Oh! and took her little machine away. Talking supermarkets the internet went down in out local Aldi a couple of years back. Cash only what was funny as lots had to just leave the messages and go get cash or go shop at Tesco

Only people over 65 use Facebook anyway, I'm surprised most of them woke up from their afternoon naps long enough to even notice.

When Facebook went down l was forced to talk to my wife.
I was shocked to learn she doesn't work in Woolworths anymore.

Re: It's the rapture!
It's brave for me! I don't like the idea that it's possible someone could steal my phone, hack that access and then have access to my bank. I'm earning a reasonable wage for the first time almost ever and between the two banks I have on my phone there's a bit of money to access!!! (Not 'reasonable' or 'a bit' compared to most of you's lot on here, but a fair bit for me!!).Slenver wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 5:48 pmIs it brave though? It's just quicker for me. If I'm queueing at a shop then my phone's probably in my hand anyway... takes a tenth of a second to wave it at a card reader, far less time and hassle then getting a wallet around and rooting around for stuff to do the same job.
Like I say, I'll keep carrying them for a while out of habit and backup, but my whole wallet has long stopped being of any real daily use.
You'll be telling me you print train tickets out next
I know, it's unlikely, but TBH, I don't see how I'd be any faster getting the phone sorted to pay than waving my card at the machine! If I'm in a queue to pay for shopping, I have my wallet in my hand - I know, that's not normal for most people!!! But, it's how I work! Wallet in hand as soon as stuff is put by the check out. Pay by card or cash and away.
And, yes, I have been known to print out tickets!! I have an old phone, sometimes the battery dies in the cold, so I don't trust it that much anymore But also, I just like to have the travel stuff in my hand. Probably more to do with my lack of confidence about travelling - I hate the actual travelling but it's necessary to get to the places I want to go

Re: It's the rapture!
All you who use their phone for a card, that is at least two points of failure. Your phone may not work, or your card may not work. Either way you are stuffed!
I carry 3 cards most days, Amex, Visa and Mastercard. If one won't work, one of the others will. And my debit card stays firmly locked away at home unless I actually need a debit card, if you steal my cards you are spending the bank's money, not mine. If you steal my phone it would be a PITA, but not a disaster.

I pay for most things with my phone, but my phone is in a superb Vena case which has my debit & credit cad secreted about it, should I need back up...
