Re: It's the rapture!
The news here about this is ridiculous. Then they mention that it's only affecting 350,000 users in the US. That's a fairly low percentage of the 175million US FB users.

Which is pretty much the storyline of Leave The World Behind with executive producers Barack and Michelle Obama. Can't make this shit up.

Re: It's the rapture!
I never get how people can put cards n everything on their phone and not carry a back up anything. I've seen so many people not be able to pay for shopping or meals etc cos their phone doesn't work or the phone works but the tech doesn't.
I haven't been brave enough to use the phone to pay for anything, but I always have both cash and card on me
I'll keep my tin foil hat too

TBH, I've found my phone to be 100% reliable so far. My cards have tended to be about 95% so. Sure, they don't run out of battery, but then I'm a big boy that can organise my phone not to either (unlike, say, my wife and any affiliated children).Noggin wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 5:26 pmI never get how people can put cards n everything on their phone and not carry a back up anything. I still have some physical cards in my wallet, but I've not used them for a year or so. They're just a legacy backup really

Re: It's the rapture!
The ded phone thing here is generally people that don't realise that cold can kill the battery (if I forget to put my phone in an inside pocket it'll die very quickly), but I have also had to translate for people at checkouts where their phone payment thing doesn't work and someone has to go back to the apartment to get an actual card!!! That just doesn't make sense to me - but they, you keep your cars as back up which I would definitely do if I ever got brave enough to start using a phone to pay for stuff!!Slenver wrote: ↑Tue Mar 05, 2024 5:32 pmTBH, I've found my phone to be 100% reliable so far. But then, up here I mostly know small business owners, so I try and have cash to hand rather than use a card!!!

Re: It's the rapture!
All my kids think of me as a dinosaur carrying cards, cash & wallet.
It's been a while since phone technology has been such that Apps were really, really crap and mobile battery life so short that you couldn't rely on it.
Someone ahead of me at the shops paid by cheque the other day. And at at the building supplies place I regularly go to, most of them insist on long vat receipts that go on forever being printed and have to be fed back into the machine umpteen times. Fortunately they've now installed self-serve-tills, so I can pick up my tub of UHU, tap out and bosh, I'm off.

Re: It's the rapture!
I pay for nearly everything with my phone, but if I'm going somewhere off piste, figuratively speaking, I take my real wallet too.
Dead phone has never stopped me yet! But see above.
Not that a real wallet would save me in most cases. I might have cash, but the shops won't have much stock or ability to accept my cash without computers

Re: It's the rapture!
Is it brave though? It's just quicker for me. If I'm queueing at a shop then my phone's probably in my hand anyway... takes a tenth of a second to wave it at a card reader, far less time and hassle then getting a wallet around and rooting around for stuff to do the same job.
Like I say, I'll keep carrying them for a while out of habit and backup, but my whole wallet has long stopped being of any real daily use.
You'll be telling me you print train tickets out next
