Anyone still using tungsten light bulbs?

You can still buy the Mathmos lava lamps, including the rocket.

Just been looking on ebay... the prices for the older large ones are insane.

Really? Seems odd as they're still making them. (They do make a 5ft tall, floor standing rocket for £2500 but the standard sizes are £80-90 and some big ones ~£400). What are they selling on eBay for £mega? I found a few where they're trying to get a premium on old ones - that you can buy new.

I bought a new one for my g/f recently. And am tempted by the 5 foot one, it'd look ace in my living room. I'm kind of weighing up that or a (replica sadly) suit of armour.

Energy hungry light bulbs and fake suits of armour is nice and brexity.

Replaced then with LED years ago. I alos did teh same with my campervans internal lights too. We do have one incandescent bulb for my wife's asthma inducing wax melting air freshener.

Re the discussion above. Just heard an article on the radio. The Mathmos lava lamp is having a birthday. 60 years old and (at least the classic ones like the Astro) are still made in Poole, Dorset and Mathmos is still run by the woman that took over from the inventor.

(Those sold under licence in the USA are made in China ).

I've phased out tungsten bulbs over time; the energy savings with LEDs just make more sense. Initially, I was attached to the old versions, but LEDs proved to be a better choice with their flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Plus, I've found useful articles on leds.to that reinforced my decision. They offer valuable insights into making the switch to LEDs easier.

They changed all the streetlights on my road to LED last week.

Every day for the past few nights I've walked up my stairs and thought "oh, the moon's bright tonight". Nope, that's just hte new circular LED streetlight outside my window.

When we got LED street lights the street got dangerously dark. Lots of women have been kicking up hell with the council as they feel unsafe but they dont care. Its saving money.
