Re: utterly random picture thread.
We Brit's grew up with Euro centric maps so I think that any world (2D) map that is centred on another part of the world can look odd or weird.
All maps are biased in some way and I like the bias on that map. But then I like maps and will often sit and read a map like others would read a newspaper.

A car dealer has just opened in the middle of town. Seems a strange place as it was a food delivery place before and all the other car dealers are in Arrecife.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
Friends of friends have a house in Normandy. After staying there, I read some memoirs of a British Sergeant, about D Day and subsequent fighting.
Looking on a map, he would have passed close by. It's an odd feeling.
Similarly, there were two battles near here during the English civil war. I only realised recently when looking at a map of the First Battle that troops were only 500m from here. And I can see from here the castle which was under seige during the Second.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
Being in Normandy around D-Day week is very evocative. Lots of houses displaying old photos in their gardens etc. Incredibly respectful.

We were there during the big anniversary. Loads of union* flags being flown.
