Where, on the windscreen, do you put your phone (for satnav)?
I've never really thought it needed discussion. I've always put mine to the side of the screen and quite low down - using it as a guide/info; not causing a problem for vision, not distracting, can reach it if I need to touch the screen (choose a new suggested route for instance) etc etc
Often I've seen people with them in the middle of the screen, but relatively low down and relatively small phones - I don't get putting them in the middle of the screen, but each to their own if they can still see out well.
The weekend just gone I saw four (I think, I lost count, my WTAF-o-meter was in overdrive, for this and other things!) drivers with big FO phones up high and only slightly to the right of their field of vision
Seriously? Surely this is illegal? WTF would you want a sodding great phone in your field of vision in your screen whilst driving on small mountain roads - or any roads TBF??
Mind you, the standard of driving was pretty horrific in general - a lot of people crossing the white lines or swerving hard for seemingly no reason A bit scary - and it wasn't even a holiday weekend

I don't, it's on the dash, in the middle, I can't stand stuff on the windscreen.

I don't like having anything above the bottom of the windscreen at all. Factory nav on the dash if fitted or phone down low - I don't want to look at the it all the time, the audio's enough for 95% of the journey.

Get some of those new Apple goggles and have them project the route onto the road in front of you.

On the inside.
Low down and central by preference. The mk7 Transit had a fold out table type thing, I had a smooth disc on that.

My car has an augmented reality HUD sat nav system from the factory.
It's great 'cause it means I have plenty of room for this now.

I have seen people with their phone wedged between the airbag and the top of the steering wheel... but you need a phone that fits in the gap.

Suction mount onto the the 'infotainment' screen. Which also displays a satnav, although with maps as new in 2017.

Personally, I've found that tucked into the offside dash means it's perfectly visible when needed, but completely out of the way. Ie over the offside vent.

My wife in her last car had a magnetic mount that wedged into one of the vents.
Being a woman, she either had the heating in the car set to Off or Max (nothing in-between).
When the heating was on max her old iphone 7 used to turn off halfway through the journey... over heated!

I work as an Engineer for an automotive OEM. There are cars out there on the road today with bits on that I designed. Right now, I'm working on cars technology for the late 2020s. I have a degree in Automotive Engineering.Rockburner wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 8:36 pm Personally, I've found that tucked into the offside dash
I'm still not sure which side is the offside
I've never heard anyone in this bizz call it anything other than "left" and "right"

I worked with people like you at Ford and Jaguar But there were more stoopider people employed by VisteonMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2024 8:43 pmI work as an Engineer for an automotive OEM. You would (probably not) be amazed at the number of Engineers in car companies who DGAS about cars

Yeah I know that in the same way I know that the 5/8" spanner is bigger than the 19/32", I have to think about it first
