How hard can you brake?
I don't think he was on the limit - the back wheel didn't come up!

Re: How hard can you brake?
We did an exercise with the IAM breaking as hard as possible from 70mph to a full stop on a runway. We did several runs and it was pretty exciting. The instructors said that my 1190adv outbraked everything else there which surprised them. The bike had ABS so had the confidence to really go for it but it surprised me as the ABS didn't really cut in, maybe for the last few feet. Don't why it was so good, weight transfer maybe. Definitely felt it in the arms and thighs after a few runs. Something everyone should try, it's a really good laugh if you know you're not doing it for real.

Re: How hard can you brake?
The last full-on e-stop I did, June 2022, resulted in a stop of the wrong sort, ie assisted by the rear of a 3.5 tonner. I think I gave it the max. The trouble is, if you don't have the required stopping distance, you won't stop, no matter how good the brakes or the braker.

Re: How hard can you brake?
Spin's mention of the back wheel coming up reminded me of an "event" that happened some years ago on Putney Bridge:
I was ... lets say ... "filtering aggressively" (well - as aggressively as is possible on a Rockster), through the late summer afternoon traffic, and was riding down the middle of the southbound side of the bridge, at the time it was 2-lanes and a cycle lane southbound, but the traffic on the northbound side was heavy, and the southbound right line was a right-filter onto the river-side road so being in the middle actually tended to be better if you were heading straight on.. but I digress...
I was between two cars and about to go past a bus on the left, doing about 25 (guessing) when a cyclist suddenly appeared travelling from left to right directly in front of the car I was next to, (between the car and the bus).
Instant braking... the bike didn't just stop within half the length of the car, the rear wheel came up to driver's eye level before come back to tarmac with something of a crash. I had no idea the brakes on the Rockster were that strong until that point, (nor that the front tyre gave that much grip!)
Obviously being a seasoned Southern Death Racer, I nonchalantly knocked it down to first without dabbing, gave the cyclist a withering Paddington Bear stare (which was ignored), and moseyed on off down the side of the bus, muttering under my breath about idiot cyclists.

Re: How hard can you brake?
I was watching the Lamb Chop review of the Tracer 9 GT+ (I think!!) and he was saying that the cruise radar will also apply more brake if it thinks that you aren't braking hard enough in the type of situation above. He tested it by not braking enough whilst aiming for the back of a car..fuck dat. It won't apply the brakes if you haven't but will apply more force if it thinks you aren't. I'm guessing this is similar to car systems.

Quite like the look of that Tracer - looks 'useful'.

This was 9 years ago on a Street Triple 2009 with no aids at all. I think I did a good job.

I rode the Gen before this one and really liked it. But this new super dooper one is £15.5k which is a bit salty. Does come with luggage, bling and extras though so probably par for the course

I almost but not quite avoided a sheep on Dartmoor in the camper a few years back - it had got out of a gated field. I would have stopped short, but the silly thing actually turned round and then ran straight towards me, straight into the front of the bus, I kid you not. I was barely moving when it headbutted the number plate. Poor old Flossie - stone dead.
Got out etc, left it to a local farmer who happened to be following me to sort out.

I doubt the sheep was gonna file a whiplash claim, so that was probably OKThe Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 6:13 pm Got out etc, left it to a local farmer who happened to be following me to sort out.
