I don't agree, I think, maybe, and this is probably not the place for such a discussion, but thanks for the replythe_priest wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 8:53 pmSimple, our neglect of the world has created climate change and changed weather patterns, hence more extreme weather and the effects will cause greater damage to any building that is located on the top of a hill... even a church. Besides, God's people make the house of prayer, not the building.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:17 pmHow as a man of god do you square that circle, An act of god has damaged the house of god?the_priest wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:33 pm
Single malt, make it a double, I have a leaking church roof! (Vicarage is toasty warm and dry thank God!)
I've got the faculty granted for the required repairs, now to get the quotes and get things done asap.

Re: What have you done today thread?
My line manager left a while ago and i'm temporarily being line-managed by a head of another dept. No one wants to get involved with me as no one really gets what I do, so I'm sort of left to my own devices. I was going to be moved to a new dept for all things digital, but it looks like that new dept is not happening now. I just got an email from a guy who does similar work to me for another company. He's heard I'm leaving and just wanted to wish me well! Ever get the feeling some people know more than you do!

Re: What have you done today thread?
Had a busy day at work after someone who should know better, did something he shouldn't whilst we were trying to earth a piece of equipment I manage along with a cable, it may have inadvertently become live at 33000V, we can't tell for sure as he was a bit evasive/rattled when I spoke to him on the phone but he'd definitely deviated from our check list. There's nothing that makes your blood run more cold in my job than when a piece of equipment that should be open, closes unexpectedly.
Suffice to say an investigation is in progress and voice comms are being listened to by management.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Yesterday a friend taught me to play backgammon. I've wanted to learn for years and she's been planning to teach me for years too.
So last night we went to a bar and sat at a table and she taught me
This afternoon we met up for some day drinking and more backgammon. Think she's a bit miffed now as I beat her four times out of four games
And I was the only one actually day-drinking! She was only on the hot chocolate!!
Now I have to try and remember how to play cribbage as the deal was that she'd teach me backgammon and I'd teach her crib (I just haven't played crib in about 15 years and not sure I can remember )

Re: What have you done today thread?
A Jamaican fella once sat me down and taught me to play. I thought it was a brilliant game in its simplicity.
I then never played again for years and forgot everything.
Every YouTube video, etc makes it look way more complicated than I recall.

I was in a similar situation but once I sat down with a bunch of players it all came back v quickly.
15-2, 15-4 and one for his nob*.

Oops! I was intending it as a response to Noggin who mentioned relearning cribbage.Pirahna wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:44 amThat's cribbage.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:36 amI was in a similar situation but once I sat down with a bunch of players it all came back v quickly.

Yeah. I’ve been looking at the rules/scoring online but it’s not come back yetCount Steer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 9:36 am
