Who did you go with in the end?

iirc I went with these guys for the lst FLASH trip : https://www.navigatortravelinsurance.co.uk/

(but it seems they're just reselling the product from here : https://www.voyagertravelinsurance.co.uk/ or something....)
Thanks for that, I don't think I have actually bought anything yet, I gave up in disgust.

I tried the voyager one, but it didn't work for me. May give them a bell. My problem is compounded by bing old and having a history of coronary issues, so cheap it will not be.
I got several online quotes in 2017 when I was 68, a few months after my vasculitis episode. I was going to China for about three months and all of the quotes were over £1000. I checked with my bank, Santander, who offered travel insurance but wouldn't cover me. Martin Lewis's https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ mentioned packaged bank accounts so I checked out a few and Nationwide got my vote. I checked with Nationwide's insurance provider before I switched, you can find the number on Nationwide's website to make sure they'd cover me, and how much it would cost. I can't remember exactly but it was about £400 to £500, i.e. less than half the quotes I'd been getting. I'm 74 now and currently in China, travel insurance for me and Mrs S L for 81 days cost me £403. Factor in the £13/month (£156/year) account fee and it still feels like a bargain. And I get breakdown cover as well. :)

Mental, physical or motor?

People who introduce themselves and their wealth at the same time.
I was doing some more maintenance around the grounds today and a lady comes up to the fence and announces herself to me and includes 'we own the farm at the top of the hill and the 3 fields with the cobs in over there, my husband's on the parish council'
Couldn't help myself so I did ' I no speak good English, I tell boss lady you come'

That and people who 'plump stuff up'. Two separate couples in the village have said 'Oh, we have a place in....' Turns out both lots have a week or two allocation in timeshares somewhere in the UK.

They've remade Road House.

What's the point, it's not like they could make it any better than the original, so why even bother.

Got another speeding ticket. Luckily I can't see that I've lost any points, so that's ok (can deal with the fine as they aren't that big for the speeds I've been done at)

Just annoying as both times it's cameras I know

This latest one is just stupid of me - three things that I could try and justify it by are that the road always used to be 90 and still should be really, but equally it was reduce to 80 a few years ago, so I bloody should know!!
And the camera had been wrapped in a bin bag all season so far until last weekend.
I know I was in a queue of traffic, so they must have made a pile over the last two weekends!!

Thing is that I didn't see a flash so didn't even expect this one :( :(

.

I found it very easy to get tickets in France - I think I got 3 in one month (2 from the same camera!). At least it's just money - not points.

There's a slightly lower threshold for carelessness that increases the chances of being caught. In the UK I think I had one speeding fine literally ever, in France I've racked up at least 6 over the years, and I do way fewer road miles over here than I ever did in the UK.

I've been flashed 3 times since getting here in December. All for just a few KMH over the limit. I haven't had a tickets though. Apparently, they flash you if you are over the limit, but only ticket if you are also over the tolerance !

I know that there is a level where they do take points (they take them not five them here!!) - so I really should find out to make sure I don't accidentally lose any!! But it is bloody annoying. It is definitely very easy to get a ticket here - I think it's partly because the speed limits feel so very slow in comparison to the UK - even though I haven't driven over there for a few years!! Have to be more careful!! LOL

  You are so right. But 50mph all ALL non motorway roads (except villages where it's less) feels soooooo slow - especially when it is a long straight open road with no houses!!

Count Steer wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 2:43 pm Parking penalty charges and the appeals process. Got back to the 'shopping trolley' to find car park attendant warden standing behind it and a ticket on the windscreen. 'Woah!' says I, 'I paid on the app'. He looks a bit annoyed and says something about their rubbish system and I show him confirmation of booking on my phone.

:angry-cussingblack: I'd booked the wrong car in. Doh. He's v nice about it but can't rescind the ticket and tells me to email the council at the address on the back of the ticket. So I get home and do that. Get a confirmation that they try to respond to emails within 14 days....UNLESS it's an appeal against a ticket, in which case it's up to 30 days. The charge goes up from £50 to £75 after 28 days.

I'll pay up after 27 if I haven't heard from them. If I stop using the app I'll save 30p each time so it'll only take 167 parkings to claw back the £50. I'll need a large bagful of 20p's though.

Sod's Law though...never used the wrong car in the app before, was only gone 15 mins - and they must have heard I got £50 on the Premium Bonds this month. *sigh*
Woot! Just had an email. PCN cancelled.

(I'd misread the notice too...it was £50 if you pay after 14 days and £25 if you pay before that. Today is day 13 and I was just about to log in and pay the £25 when ping! goes my email).

Years ago i did a keyholders job for group4. Mostly nights so about 02:00 i leave the edge of Edinburgh on the A71 heading to Livingstone. Must be a good 9/10 miles of country curves so be used to welly the cars along it. Side street the Police was just slowing to stop as i whizz past at must have been 85/90. He turns my way and i can see the light going up and down with his erratic gear shifts. Im thinking he had no chance in his 1.7 diesel Astra as i was in a new 2.0 Diesel 306 so i keep on traveling. Passes through a village what coming towards me was my shift manager heading to Edinburgh. I carry on back into the country road at speed and never seen the police car again. Back at the office for lunch shifty manager was telling moaning about the police pulling him and not believing he never just came from Edinburgh and turned round again. Poor bugger had to show his paperwork proving he had been doing site visits.
