Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Some years ago, the Gremlinette and I were in Modena, Italy. We walked past a gentleman's outfitters and there was a nice, blue car coat in the window. Double-breasted, waffle-type material. Very stylish. Anyhow, went in a bought it.
Over the years, I've lost count of the amount of times people have come up to me and complimented it and asked me where I bought it. Happened again this morning in the shops. Probably the only item of clothing I've ever owned that I've received compliments on.

I have a 1st edition leather bound Harry Lorrequer illustrated by Phiz. Less than a £1 from a boot sale! It isn't actually worth that much, but it was still a great find.

So you don't sit on it and crease it when driving. AKA...a jacket.

Though longer than a blouson. And much longer than a bolero, obvs.
And shorter than a trench coat and a great coat.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Not really related to smart car coats but one of my niggles is cheapskate manufacturers who don't put 2-way zips on 'outdoor' type jackets so you can't unzip the bottom 6-9inches for driving so you have to hitch em up otherwise you feel trussed up like a Christmas turkey, or you unzip the whole thing then wrap the seatbelt around like a badly wrapped parcel.gremlin wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:55 pmPlus it don't get slammed in the doorCount Steer wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:26 pmShort.

I never, ever wore a coat in a car. Hated being wrapped up. Wait 30 seconds until heater kicks in.gremlin wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:54 pmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car_coat# ... nd%20women.weeksy wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:08 pmWTF is a car coat ?gremlin wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 11:10 am Some years ago, the Gremlinette and I were in Modena, Italy. Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
I suspect that they are no longer the sole preserve of car drivers, much as one doesn't need to be shelled by German artillery in order to wear a trench coat, nor fly in a B17 to wear a bomber jacket.Yorick wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 2:43 pmI never, ever wore a coat in a car. I was helping you build a rich, sumptuous visual image, in order that you could envisage me stepping out of a classic Alfa Spyder to the gasps of Italians sitting sipping their espresso, wearing my fabulous car coat and quietly acknowledging the appreciative glances of the ladies, whilst their menfolk look on in envy.....weeksy wrote: Mon Jan 22, 2024 2:54 pmYou're the one who called it that.
