Edited after discussions now to include link

Edited title and will update with adventure when he posts

OK, so here's the page then.

I've been chatting more than once with various people and it's come up on here a few times about using some form of crowdfunding for the lads racing MTB stuff.

Now, i've been against this for the reasons mostly that i feel it's unfair to ask people for money. (although i'm fine asking companies for free stuff in terms of sponsorship). But the reality is, to do certain events this year, next year and the years after (hopefully) we wouldn't be able to manage without some form of 'alternative' funding.

I'm obviously leaving this open to answers, but if you want anonymity then i've put a poll there too.

The 'funding' could be a monthly thing, a one-off thing, or a whenever people had spare cash for it type thing. This year the funding would go towwards racing in the French Cup race
https://velo.ffc.fr/courses/coupe-de-fr ... lasse-1-3/

Along with that, any extra would go toward a potential race in the IXS Series in Germany/Austria/Solvenia. The thoughts are that any/all would massively help him in terms of experience, racing, life and his profile as a racer.

Unless the individual was a 'business' then apart from gratitude, the boy couldn't offer a lot in return for any funds given, he has an active social media and presence, but that would only be useful if he could return anything given by product placement and tagging etc.

So, have at it... Don't be shy with your thoughts, don't think anyone is going on my shit-list if you say "fuck you" to any of this, it won't be taken personally.

Maybe offer the chance to sponsor 1 event.
Or buy a set of tyres etc.

Maybe a price list of things you use often

Then they will see the money used. Rather than just go into a pot.

I'd happily bung some cash your way. My view is if you give someone something or money then it's theirs to do what they will with, no strings, no caveats.

A friend of mine was racing a car at an event.

He sold squares of bodywork to people to put on whatever they wanted.

I bought a square and had a picture of my ginger cat put in it.

I guess there not so much space on an MTB so that's a shit idea for you :p

I did it recently for a fella that used to work for me who competes at Worlds Strongest Man - he set up a Just Giving page to get him out to the USA to compete.

People don't have to join in, they make their choices. Go for it.....

I don't see any problem with it, people have the choice whether to give or not.

I'd be curious not only to know thoughts on it from a content/quality/information perspective, but also keep the thoughts coming on the viability of it etc too.

I don't speak MTB competition lingo so apologies if it's obvious, but I can't see anything on there about his performance to date?

Is there a way to give directly to you, saves crowdfunding taking their cut?

Also I'm wary of giving orgs like crowdfunding any info because of spamming, nagging and begging from them later on.

I think that's quite viable using the 'donate' button on the forum here... Although PayPal would then take their cut too of course. I could in theory PM people the 'race' bank information but if i'm being quite truthful here, that removes some of the anonymity from it all and makes it all a bit more 'real' and i'd be pretty embarassed taking peoples money in that way.

I doubt that makes sense now i've written it down, but this has been a bit of a 'moment' for me actually doing this.

I get what you mean about the anonymity, I'm not keen asking people for favours or help.

Please keep this popping up to the top, right now I can't contribute but I would love to when I can.

Equally - if you need anything (contacts, french speaker, help) when you do Les Menuires, shout me. I'll probably be starting my bus driving course the week before the race but as far as I'm aware, I won't be training at the weekends, so will be around to come and support and offer any help that I can :D :D

Donut! I'm definitely not offering to go near the mechanical stuff!! LOL That would be terrible! But, I might be able to rustle up some english voices to holler support on the route! :D :D And I don't live 'that' far from Les Menuires, so might be useful!! :D
