New (to me) bike time!!

Post by 636mick »

So, after deciding my riding days were over due to some health issues, and being bikeless for a year and a half, bought this today! It’s not new but I set a budget, which I blew, but like the look.
Couple of weeks before it arrives.
Happy Xmas to me!!

And am loving that seat- very sort of gentlemanly - reminds me of a Sherlock Holmes / Oscar Wilde smoking jacket 8-)

Not sure, I know it weighs less than my 2 Triumph Explorers but can’t remember the actual weight. It’s all fairly low down though so that’ll help. Not seen it in the flesh yet, done the deal on the phone so I’ll let you know when it gets here.

Finally got some miles done, regardless of the weather! The seat, feels ok but not sure about the look, so it may go. Bit chuggy when cold which may be the exhaust so I need to dig deeper, cleared once opened up though. Ticks over fine. Bar end mirrors are not good, not much adjustment without them coming loose and stops the bike fitting through the back gate, so EBay beckons for replacements.
There’s a road I like out of Daventry towards Banbury/M40 then across towards Silverstone and backup the A5. Has bits of everything so that was my test ride route. Roads were drying out so I could do the faster bits fairly rapidly. Got to say, I’m happy!! Bike goes brilliantly, handling is ok but doesn’t like fast, bumpy bends, kind of makes me happy the seat grips my bum well!! It bounces a bit which threw me offline until I got used to it and planned for it. Love the way it does its valve thing at about 6500rpm, the Crossrunner, I’m told, smoothed out the jolt in a VFR but still a noticeable kick in the back as it takes off.
Smallest bike I’ve owned for years, both physically and engine size, which makes it really easy to move about and ride. The exhaust sounds great, especially when you wind it open, so all in all I’m very pleased with the bike, very happy to be back on 2 wheels, roll on summer or at least days without ice and snow!!

I'd imagine like most modern Fi bikes its very lean in the closed loop and you're noticing that around town? Check teh forums to see if people have them remapped as this dramatically changes most lean running bikes.

I think he's talking about the VTEC kicking in. On those motors they are 2 valve until 6500rpm and then they change to 4. Same as the VTEC thing all the max power boys waffled on about with the Civic Type R. Unless you mean the chuggy bit rather than the " I’m told, smoothed out the jolt in a VFR but still a noticeable kick in the back as it takes off."

Think I imagined the chugging!! Seems fine now so as I’m getting used to it I’m leaving it for now. Mirrors changed to standard, need some bar weights so eBay again, bought a top box as I bungeed my expensive leather overnight bag and I wasn’t happy with it not moving much!
It doesn’t like low revs, below about 2k it doesn’t pull too well but once it’s on the move it’s great. Exhaust sounds nice, especially when it’s wound up. Handling is fine for me as an elderly, slightly portly kind of chap, seat is better than I expected, just a bit garish! Neighbours don’t like it when I leave at 0520 for some reason, might be the can being a tiny bit loud, lazy buggers should be up and about in my opinion!
All in all, loving being back on a bike, happy with it and planning a trip or two for later in the year.
Cheers
