On a positive note,at least the pain ensures your case is marked 'urgent'. I've lost two fillings in the last couple of months and no chance of getting sorted unless I admit to being in pain. Dental advice is to buy a temporary filling and plug the gap. My two attempts so far have lasted a total of 5 hours before it all falls out again.
I'm not too hot at this home dentistry caper.

That doesn't sound good. Or right.
I had one removed a couple of years ago. It was painless, and the recovery straightforward and quick. I don't recall any problems at all tbh.
