Been working three days a week for the last 2 years now (I'm 55) with a little side hustle business on the side with a couple of mates. I'll keep on with the side hustle business to keep me semi busy and in beer and bikes but I reckon paid employment for me will be over in max two years. We've enough put away to get by, without being extravagant, until all the pensions kick in, missus also works three days and gets a pension already which makes it all possible. Funny, now we're working three days a week, how did we ever find the time to work full time??

I'll reach state pension age in the 2050s, so I should probably ask ChatGPT what it will allow me to do.

I'm looking forward to an AI managed Utopia. Which I'm sure will happen before my mandated retirement date.

Or... I'm going to sell out my fellow humans to our evil robot overlords for an extra ration of insect protein.

I’m 64 1/2, my original plan was to stop at 60 but divorce and my ex’s theft and lies stopped that plan. Now, I can go in a year and a half but I’m not planning to. I love my job, the team I manage, what we do, just the politics and a few idiots above me that spoil it on occasion. For as long as my health stays/improves I’m looking at going until I’m 67/68ish. As long as I pass my yearly medical I’m here to continue to screw up as many of your journeys on the M1 as I possibly can!
No need to thank me.

I genuinely think I could retire tomorrow and be happy if I was financially secure, I'm 46. I've always been someone who is happy with his own company, easily find stuff to occupy myself and definitely work to live not the other way around. In retirement I don't think I'd want to be particularly extravagant, 1 holiday a year, couple of weekends away maybe. I'm fairly happy filling time going for walks daily, fair amount of reading/PS5, odd meal out, get back into model making, visiting local towns/villages. Oh and riding bikes a hell of a lot more than I do now as I'll have a shed load more time. Old people shit really.

Longest I've had off work was after my bike crash in 2007 when I was off work for 3 months. That drove me up the wall but only for 1 reason, I was a part raspberry and couldn't do much. If I could have got out and about easily and done stuff it'd have been great...but then I'd not have had 3 months off  The times a mate or the Mrs were free and could cart me out it was great being off during the week.

In reality I'm hoping it'll be early 60s. My private pension is supposed to kick in at retirement age which is 67, but hoping I'll be able to bring that forward. A lot depends on lots of variables. I've not got long left on the mortgage, hoping it'll be done when I'm just over 50 which means I can pile more into pension/savings I've currently got 22% of my wage going into my pension a month between me and my employer. I've got a chunk of savings which is in the offset at the moment, but will soon be invested. Pending what happens with the kids I'd definitely consider moving further out from London for a house which is both bigger and cheaper or same size and a fair bit cheaper. Potentially the Mrs could also end up inheriting a decent flat. So a nice run down of amount of days worked at say 60 till 63 and then quit would be perfect.

But that's all if it goes well. More wars fucking pensions up, people needing care, kids derailing plans, cost of living, health issues etc could all change things drastically.
