KTM 690 Enduro

Post by dern »

So I've been playing around on my drz 400 for a few years on local lanes and it's completely toss at longer distance and I fancied travelling further to do some off road rides and camping. I looked at a number of bikes and quickly realised I didn't want another adv twin weighing 200kgs+ as I will be travelling alone and don't want to die pinned under massive lump of bike that I can't lift off myself.

I sat on a 690 enduro and a crf 300 and they both suited in terms of size and weight but I could get a 690 for less money that I could a 300 with some decent suspension and the ktm would already be largely ready with decent suspension. Then this came up with a load of extra stuff that will suit me down to the ground and I just won this bike at auction and will hopefully be picking it up tomorrow. If all goes well I'll be very happy and if not I'll ask for the thread to be deleted

It's, very, very, orange!

I've had a load of 690s so will follow with interest.

I think it's for soft panniers.

Nah. The plate with the holes in scrambles radar and stops the enemy getting a target lock on it. It's stealth.

It's a fold up tray table.

So when you stop you have somewhere to put your flask of weak lemon drink and Eccles cake.

I'd better put the fruit bowl in the cupboard....just in case. You can clearly see the hole pattern is near random-ish....though, for better scattering.

Nice. What year is it? Apparently 2019 on has an extra balance shaft so it a bit smoother

Nice, my mate has one that looks the same in terms of rally looks but is black and he spent about 2k on better forks...then never rode it  still in his garage next to his 1190 Adv. Shame as both top bikes.

Given its a 2014 you might wanna check the rocker arm barings. There is talk of later model rocker arms and Jim Aim said my 2015 Duke should be fine as it would have had them. But I asked them to check at 12k miles and, yes they had the later arms and yes they still needed replacement as the exhaust side was notchy. Other than that the engine is great. Check for oil use they can use a bit. Mine wasn't terrible for oil use but did need a bit now and then and they don't hold much.

Enjoy

I’m planning on checking the valves and rockers next week when I’m finished for the year. I’ve watched so many YouTube videos on these things that the algorithm has run out of suggestions 😂

My rocker arms exited stage left and that's £860 I'll never see again. Apparently I was lucky as they can take the rest of the engine with them if swarf gets into the sump! Mechanic told me these engines are oil level critical and never let it get on the low side?

Anyway, cracking looking bike, happy new bike day!

Yes - a sump capacity of just 1.7 litres means an oil level check is de rigueur before every ride.

Picked it up today and very happy indeed. Someone has spent a small fortune on parts for this bike to get it travel ready. All the stuff that I'd have done has already been done and loads of other stuff besides. The tower and side tanks would have been several thousand new. Looking forward to getting it out on the lanes and to France/Spain in the new year.

The akra that's been fitted solves the problem of the excessive heat of the standard and removes some weight. I can't believe how quiet it is compared to my DRZ, very pleased with that.
