The Super Scalpel

Post by Tricky »

Going by this vid, any old has/was-never-been nobber who gets one of these and takes it on track is going to have to either up his game or get the good old book of track day excuses out :D

All this assuming that the bikes ever leave the factory, bike shops open again, and of course that there are such things as Trackdays when the world returns to any form of what was normal

Yeah, it does- it's got the same electronics package as the 790 (up and down QS, TC, cornering ABS, Anti-Wheelie, Supermoto ABS mode, etc), just that they are disabled out of the box on the 890 and the robbing fuckers make you pay for them if you want them as, well I guess they can.
I find it hard to believe that anyone who buys an 890R would want one without it, whereas I can believe that a proportion of 790 buyers wouldn't be too fussed if they couldn't disable anti-wheelie, or have QS, TC, etc

Wow that’s a bit poor from Ktm. I loved all the toys on the 790.

This is arguably the 790R, they never made anything in between no.

That definitely is a bit poor, they've made it, installed it all, but won't turn it on unless you pay extra.
Then how much will they charge for bug fixes and updates?

Which is all the more reason that if I was Weeksy I'd be throwing my bike back at KTM and telling them to fix the electrics.

THey've done that on all models apart from the 790, from the 1290 to the 690, etc, if you want the super bits, you pay the money for them.

They kinda dropped the ball on the 790 giving everyone all the bling QS/Blipper/Track stuff for free, but you'd have thought they'd keep it going on the 890R

Cost is usually just over £200.

updates are free of course.

I'd assume I'd be able to haggle at the dealers to get that thrown in if I'm buying a new bike?

It's not impossible, but i've not seen it happen. Depending on demand of course.

For example i was discussing the 790 yesterday, i looked at buying one, pre-reg, 0 miles, £6599. OK so you only get 18 months warranty not 2 years as pre-reg, but that's a massive saving on the £8500 or so of a new new one. In that case, maybe you'd get it thrown in.

I guess it depends on your relationship with the dealer, on my previous 690 i got the track pack thrown in. On this one i had to pay for it (at a reduced rate of course).

That's the thing with KTM... Buying one at the right time! Just bought my 1290 SDGT on 1st Feb, brand new on a 69 plate (2018 model), saved over £5k against buying a 19/20 model! Ok so I don't get the TFT dash or the down blipper, but the older bike looks better IMO and all the engine and suspension software updates have been done FOC to bring it bang up to date. I bought a brand new bike with 24 months warranty for cheaper than many dealers were selling 12-18 months bikes for with 5k miles on the clock or more!

That 890 looks like it'll be a hell of bike. I thought my 790 was ridiculously good dynamically so this one should be ultra bonkers.

the paint jobs look better than the 790 too. The only criticism I had about the 790, (apart from it making you ride like a twat) was that it was ugly. It didn't make me smile when I opened the garage door like my Ducati does :)

Selling one at the right time too, i had just put my 790 on ebay and KTM knocked a grand off the new price

I did the same with my 2017. I saved a load and the 2018 was only different in colour!
