Re: utterly random picture thread.
I'm sure there are reasons beyond a £multi-million practical joke
Gowon, give us a hint
NB my guess was to do with difference in air flow for the 'engine' and 'lift' parts of the wing.
Yes, I spent some time looking and wondering ...

They're even funkier if you look at them head on!
There's not gonna be a single reason, it's just the interaction of loads of (often conflicting) requirements. Not just aerodynamics, but also structural engineering, manufacturability etc.
But as above, loads of planes have 'kinked' wings, for loads of reasons.
Someone mentioned Vulcans? They have kinks...
Whereas B2s (and F22s and F35s) have only a very few angles, see how the tail is parallel to the wings and the front of the intakes/fuselage. There are only 2 or 3 'main angles' on the entire aircraft. That's for stealth reasons primarily.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
Lots ok wing kinks, wing fences and sawtooth leading edges, on earlier generations of fast aircraft. Mostly to do with controlling spanwise flow, and ensuring the wingtips stall first.
I suspect that the latest stuff is designed using computer modelling to avoid the problems that kinks, wing fences and sawtooths were invented to cure.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
The early B1 Vulcan's didn't have kinks. The B2 did.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
Modern aircraft can be incredibly unstable, but it's not a problem because they fly by wire and a computer keeps everything in check.

Re: utterly random picture thread.
Off for an MRI scan shortly. The pre-scan instructions are mildy amusing for somebody as puerile as me...
2 - Been beating Mrs G off with a shitty stick for the last two days.
3 - Is it acceptable to ask the nurse to pull the proffered finger and then force one out for comedy, as well as medical, reasons?
1 - Not a problem. Well, it is a fucking problem, hence the MRI. 2 - Been beating Mrs G off with a shitty stick for the last two days.
