What have you done today thread?
Re: What have you done today thread?
Stated to dry line the ceiling in our kitchen, it's a bit high (c.3meters) and I struggled to get the board in place, then found this
https://skill-builder.uk/plasterboard-c ... asy-method which kind of works but is still hard work by myself and likely to end up with something getting broken so I've put another coat of paint on our youngest bedroom wall. Kids and their Mum are playing / coaching rugby this morning so it's s good time to get on with things.
Just sat with a cuppa before I carry on.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I haven't actually worked that out. My reasoning was more based on how much I felt I needed to live on in retirement and thereby how much state pension I'd need. I'd been a mixture of unwise and unlucky in private pension provision; unwise in that I'd contributed nothing into a private pension during the 10 years I'd been contracting, and unlucky in that the pension provision I had made was invested in Equitable Life.wheelnut wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 12:20 pmAt what point do you come out ahead on that - about 12 years or so after you take your pension?mangocrazy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 10:55 am
Yes, that's the regime that applied to me. I deferred for 5 years and 8 months at the 10.4% rate.
So my pension consists of SP plus the workplace pension I'd built up from 2000 to 2020, hence the need to maximise the SP by deferring.
I'll live as long as I'll live after retirement but I wish to be financially comfortable during that time.

I won't hit state retirement age until the 2050s. I fully expect ChatGPT/the EU/Hesbolah/the reanimated cyborg corpse of Nigel Farage will have taken over by then. Probably makes more sense to take the money and buy spiked shoulder pads and sawn off shotguns.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I made a Snow Angel Ok, a wonky Snow Angel, but there's not a lot I can do about that
Forgot how hard it is to walk in deep snow - it was probably about 20cm deep in most of the places I walked. There's around 30cms on some of the walls up in the resort (only a few metres higher than me but maybe the rain didn't hit so hard those few metres higher up!)
Where I did the snow angel was a terrace that was a bit sheltered, so I wasn't trying to get back up out of deep snow!!
I do so love snow
My jeans, walking boots and socks are now drying by the radiator in case some friends decide that yes, they want to go for pizza tonight (now there is a restaurant open on weekend evenings!!)

Cooked a roast at work.

Re: What have you done today thread?
There's the difference!! You live somewhere that it is actually cold, nasty and wet in the winter. I chose to move somewhere where it is generally cold and dry - when snow falls it's not wet, but yes, not wearing the right kit (like me today!) does cause a person to get wet, but damn, this snow stuff is proper lush. I suppose one day I might get bored of it, but I do so hope not!! LOL

It’s the peeler at work, it’s all or nothing and woe betide you if a finger tip strays in front of it…….Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 3:23 pmStill savaging your carrots I see, what did they ever do to you?

Re: What have you done today thread?
Well I have changed career and become a people trafficker!
We've spent the last 3 weeks helping out at a friend's place after his stroke in Spain. Decided to come back through Andorra for a bit of cheap alcohol and tabs for our friends! Anyway, we're 10k or so away from Andorra and i ask swmbo to get my passport out of the glove box, she then says
"We need passports!"
So she's in the toilet of the moho as we cross into Andorra and France, just in case we get asked.
Had to keep best non guilty face on when asked 'seulement vous'

Re: What have you done today thread?
I turned the heating up pretty high at about 3pm today. And it stayed on until just now. But at the time when I did it, I thought not doing so might have poxed a shag I was about to have. So it was probably about four pounds well spent.

Re: What have you done today thread?
I had a mercy dash to Brighton as my daughter's student digs has a dodgy door catch that locks her in. My dislike of seaside towns was reinforced, horrible place.
I did get thinking when I was overtaken by a few of the vintage car rally, are really old cars exempt having a speedo and therefore immune to the blanket 20mph covering most of Brighton?

Re: What have you done today thread?
Was having an amazing enduro ride. By myself so able to choose my fave routes.
Then up in the hills a got caught by a freak rain cloud. Absolutely soaked and could see bugger all.
Headed down and within 5 mins all blue skies again. Soon dried off
Bike got filthy so gave it first wash in about 6 months
Still love the looks

Re: What have you done today thread?
I met a friend for coffee this morning (cos I had a late start) and happened to mention that a pizza restaurant that I've not tried (well, not since the change of owner) has just reopened. So is the only restaurant open in the evening up here. He was raving about their pizzas so somehow we ended up making a plan to go for pizza tonight!!
He text a bit before and said that he'd forgotten that friend of his was coming up to resort and could he invite her too. Of course!!
So, I've just had dinner with two Fronch and I've not spoken English at all! I know I post these little wins often, but it does seriously make me happy to finally, after so many years, be able to go out with French and not have to resort to English!
Even saw two other friends, one of whom probably only remembers me as having a very poor smattering of Franglais!! So that was cool too!! (The other I actually speak to quite often when I go for coffee in the mornings!!)
So, after a very boring afternoon at work, I've had a really good evening! But, it's bloody tiring!!

Started asking for quotes for a shed at the new house. How much is an 11x7 steel shed delivered to here? I should know by the end of the week.
