Garage stuff.

Post by ZRX61 »

As mentioned elsewhere, bought ANOTHER tool box/cabinet two weeks ago. Picked it up today...
Clean up & organization was the plan of the day...

Starting point:

New cabinet:

Cart in first pic was originally intended for detailing gubbins. Mission accomplished:

Image

This entire corner still needs sorting:

Image

Cabinet filled... (also shown, Doug Chandlers fuel drum from the last AMA race at Willow Springs, now my trash can)

Image

Image

Shelving against three walls also got sorted, and under the workbench & the top of it. Not done yet.

I got those on Amazon. That's about half the set I bought.

If the linky no worky, search for "A-LuGei【𝟯𝟮𝗣𝗖𝗦 Tool Box Organizer Tray Divider Set, Desk Drawer Organizer, Garage Organization and Storage Toolbox Accessories for Rolling Tool Chest Cart Cabinet Work Bench Small Parts Hardware"

Then scroll down to "Products related to this item" * it will take you to dozens of possibilities.

2 days in & maybe 15 sessions of rearranging the Yukon cabinet. I keep getting even more stuff in this thing, it's like the Tardis of toolboxes.

Vacuumed half the garage carpet this morning...

Image

Then sorted the Yukon...

Image

Image

Image

Even ended up with a clear spot on the workbench..

Image

... & now, I spotted a couple of other things that may fit in the Yukon...

Good grief, this is getting ridiculous. After I thought it was full, I managed to get two tins of buzzy tool attachments, a box of router bits, a box of Forstner bits AND my tray of sharpening stones & associated gubbins in there.

Image

I put this:

Here, on top of the box of nylon spacers & washers:

Forstner box went in after (no pic)

Jeeze, did I fuck up today. The casters on the red craftsman box aren't the best & they don't like to swivel. Had to take my lead-filled beater bag off & put it on the floor (the easy part).. it weights around 250lb

Image

Got the red box moved out & back in again as I needed something behind it.

I managed to get the bag onto a piece of plywood, then put some 1in blocks under the ply with the aid of a crowbar so I could get my fingers under it...

Image

There followed three futile attempts at lifting it, fourth try was a success..

Image

Sorted!

Image

Back, knees, hips, right wrist & left shoulder aren't happy..

& just for Jack... there's a few hand boxes behind the Craftsman & Seville rollers...

Image

Image

Wooden tote is pinstriping gubbins, plastic tote is nails & screws etc, big Dewalt box is routers, Bosch box ditto, Dark OD green box is gun tools.

Seriously thinking there's some kind of space/time deal going on with the Yukon cabinet. I took one box of cheap Kobalt brand screwdriver & drill bits out of it...(that's going on a shelf someplace)

Then managed to get four more boxes in it:
Rocket Sockets
Irwin extractor set
GW sensor socket set
Horrible Fright lugnut socket set (the good one, not the cheap one)

and now I have an almost empty drawer in my main box.

They screwed up the sizes on Amazon, they're only 2in deep. Same company does a 59 piece set now that comes with 5 different sizes. I never used any of the smallest square ones (3x3in) I gave them to roomie & they went in one of her jewellery drawers

I've just thought of a good use for artificial intelligence! What about a "where did I put?" program. You could feed it all your photos and it would recognise all the objects and be able to tell you where to find what you needed in an instant. Of course it would have to understand a wide variety of pseudonyms for them and understand your descriptions of thingy that...

Could be a long way off but it would help me no end.

Or you could write the contents on the outside of all the drawers/shelves/cupboards. :)

I put labels on the drawers of my main box when I first bought it, but took them off after a few months. Fast fwd about 25 years & I still get the pliers drawer muddled with the screwdriver drawer.

I shadowfoamed most of the drawers in my main tool chest, but haven't yet named the drawers, still takes me a few goes to find certain things.
