Booked in for Friday morning. I shall then go for a ride to scrub them in and check out the satnav/phone/headset set up. I've got to go to my daughters in Norf Essex so will see what kind of interesting route the Zumo can come up with...

Short lived. I ride with ear plugs in and i could hear them at that at junctions and roundabouts but not at motorway speeds. I don't have any experiance of these things, so cant really evaluate them yet. But, I think the premise was good, but I suspect they are a long way off of the ability of a good make? I need more time with them to be more accurate tbh.

My one turns up as the outside noise increases, presumably via the microphone, although maybe not as I just remembered my brother cut his microphone off. Either way with ear plugs it's audible from 0 to 100 mph. Mines only a cheap (ish) scala rider so sound quality isn't great, fine for Sat nav but probably nothing else

Scala Rider is a product from Cardo, who are one of the main players in the market, so not that surprised it has the volume increasing with speed thing.

The cheapo thing was really a proof of concept for me. Do I want one? Do I need one? It has shown me the answer is yes as the voice for satnav instructions was brilliant and much safer than keep looking at the screen. Also, a text flashed up telling me I had a visitor turn up at home so i diverted straight home, whereas i wouldn't have seen the text until much later normally. Didnt even know the phone satnav link up would do that! I'll give the cheap thing another shot but expect i'll end up buying a better one. Is Scala the make to get then? Thinking about it, the battery life on the cheapo was about 3 hours, how does a scala one compare?

I sneaked in another quick ride on the bike as well. I tried Sport mode 3. It's a different animal in that mode for sure! :D Its got an unexpected hell of an induction roar? Wonder if its got a DNA air filter or suchlike? I really enjoy riding this thing, thats for sure!

I bought my scala rider Q solo years ago, don't think they make them anymore. Battery life is decent I've found, I've done 6-7 hr days and it's still working at the end. Typically I then charge it. Think it was about 90 quid a fair while ago. Think they were the cheaper end of the decent market

I've been using a scala G9 for many years with a pair of Sure SE215 ear buds that do the same job as foam ear plugs for cutting wind noise and the sound quality is top notch.
I charge the G9 about once a fortnight give or take so that's about 15 hours of commuting, I mainly listen to podcasts :thumbup:

I was wondering if noise canceling airpod pros would do the same job?

I tried my Sony ear buds and found that they didn't seal as well as the sure ones.

@Taff
Are those noise cancelling ear bud things comfortable with a helmet ,and can you get helmet on and off without dislodging them? Never had much luck with cheap ones I've tried before.

They're not noise cancelling, but the foam tip does block out the wind noise as much as a normal foam ear plug.

Comfortable - yes, provided that they are sitting right in the ear, the cable goes over the top of your ear and it can sometimes get dislodged as I put my helmet on. I wear a flip front which makes it much much easier, by with a full face I just put a finger on each bud as I pulled on my helmet.

They're expensive but worth it IMO, the cable is replaceable as is each speaker individually.

This post makes me smile, it's really good that you're enjoying riding a bike and riding it for fun.

I have the Cardo Freecom which ran music all the way from home to deepest Wales via the twisty "Abel" route so around 8 hours and still had power left at the end. I tend to leave the sat nav on the screen as i find the instructions annoying as it also "pings" when in a speed camera area .....ANY speed camera area , so all the fucking time. I have switched the setting off now but have got used to the lack of voice instructions now ;)
