Just watching her cortege on the news. I had no idea she was that popular or left such a legacy! Hell of a turn out!

The cynic in me thinks it'll be a lot of people who just want to be seen.

Rodruigez, the Searching for Sugar Man musician.

If you've never seen the film, you really ought to. And if you've never listened to his albums then you should do that as well.

I hadn't until I saw the film about 10 years ago. The story blew my mind, it was crazy. Started listening to the albums then and got completely hooked. He really should've been a whole lot more successful, he was very much in the wrong place and time I think.

Crazy coincidence here...! I have a musician mate, and we regularly share acts/bands with each other that we reckon the other should listen to. I got him into Rodruigez years ago, and he spent an evening a couple of years back showing me Robbie Robertson videos online as he's a massive fan. He also then leant me The Last Waltz DVD which, I admit, I've still not got round to watching and is in a drawer somewhere

He texted me yesterday to tell me Rodruigez had died, and said we should re-watch the Sugarman film. Definitely, I said, next time you come round we'll watch it. And then we can watch that The Last Waltz DVD, he said, it'll be a cool double-bill.

Anyway, he then of course texted me first thing this morning about Robbie Robertson. Best not suggest anything else for a triple-bill...

Robbie popping off hasn't made my day. :(

I've played the Storyville and Robbie Robertson albums to death over the years. Used to rock my baby daughter to sleep playing Storyville.

Shit, bollocks and arseholes. Robbie Robertson's passing has really spoilt my day (and doubtless his, as well). I came late to The Band (mid-late 70s when I 'discovered' them), but they've been a constant ever since. The very best guitarists had/have something that made them immediately distinctive, and you could pick them out immediately. Robbie was one of them.

First Jeff Beck and now Robbie. Please no more for a while...

I had no idea who he was until I just played that.
