I've played the Storyville and Robbie Robertson albums to death over the years. Used to rock my baby daughter to sleep playing Storyville.

Robbie popping off hasn't made my day.

Shit, bollocks and arseholes. Robbie Robertson's passing has really spoilt my day (and doubtless his, as well). I came late to The Band (mid-late 70s when I 'discovered' them), but they've been a constant ever since. The very best guitarists had/have something that made them immediately distinctive, and you could pick them out immediately. Robbie was one of them.

Oh, I don't know. Any chance you could be a Sam Smith fan...Slenver wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:21 am Crazy coincidence here...! I have a musician mate, and we regularly share acts/bands with each other that we reckon the other should listen to. I got him into Rodruigez years ago, and he spent an evening a couple of years back showing me Robbie Robertson videos online as he's a massive fan. He also then leant me The Last Waltz DVD which, I admit, I've still not got round to watching and is in a drawer somewhere
He texted me yesterday to tell me Rodruigez had died, and said we should re-watch the Sugarman film. Definitely, I said, next time you come round we'll watch it. And then we can watch that The Last Waltz DVD, he said, it'll be a cool double-bill.
Anyway, he then of course texted me first thing this morning about Robbie Robertson. Best not suggest anything else for a triple-bill...

Just checked and it's on YouTube. Gonna watch it tonight with the missusSlenver wrote: Wed Aug 09, 2023 3:56 pm Rodruigez, the Searching for Sugar Man musician.
If you've never seen the film, you really ought to. And if you've never listened to his albums then you should do that as well.

I'm not getting it on there, or if do its only 1080p which i'll not bother with. Apparently its on Netflix so will watch it later.

I was gonna suggest Netflix, and I'm sure it was on there for years, but I did look earlier and think it's not anymore.Taipan wrote: Thu Aug 10, 2023 2:11 pmI'm not getting it on there, or if do its only 1080p which i'll not bother with. Apparently its on Netflix so will watch it later.

Re: Just Dead Celebrity Express Thread !
Within 5 seconds the missus said she'd seen it but happy to watch again.
After 10 mins I bailed out. Just a documentary with dull folk talking.
It assumed you knew a lot about him before you watched it. Fail.

Did you never watch TV until a few years ago?
Even in 625 'SD' days, that wasn't what you got to see. The top lines were for teletext, then they often 'overblanked' the rest.
Even bland can be a type of character

Don't suppose it would've made the news if they'd died in their sleep or anything, but a gruesome death is always going to.Mussels wrote: Sun Aug 20, 2023 10:01 pm Looks like C list celebrity parents now count as celebrities themselves.
