It's from 1982, the bike has the square tank, 81 was the round tank.
It also has a 16" front wheel

Not a bad guess in that case. I'm just staggered at the quality of the pic - front to back sharp and perfect gradation of the grey tones. Whoever took that was at the top of their game.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 8:43 pm It's from 1982, the bike has the square tank, 81 was the round tank.

Pretty sure it's a colour picture converted to black and white, if I remember I'll get my Z1000 Superbike book out and see if it's in there in colour. You can just see some very early flat slide carbs on the bike, so it's probably mid 1982, as they started the year with Keihin Cars, went to Quicksilver carbs and finished the year with Blue Magnums, feck knows what Kawasaki USA were spending on racing.

Yes, now you mention it, that looks right. The tonal gradation is 'unusual' for B/W film.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Thu Mar 02, 2023 10:47 pm Pretty sure it's a colour picture converted to black and white

Re: Cool Race Pics.
What was that in the road racing thread about bits falling of sidecar outfits?

I felt so sorry for CE. These days NH would most likely have been penalised for the pass, but whether that's progress or not is debatable.
On another point, how they got away with that A style ad,beats me.

Re: Cool Race Pics.
I was watching that race sat on the bed and when Colin recovered and put his M1 up the inside of Nicky I exuberantly jumped up off the bed and then promptly sat back down again, forgetting that I was previously sat on the corner of the bed. I collapsed in an ungainly heap on the floor at pretty much the same time as Colin did.
Mrs Mango pissed herself laughing and regularly reminds me of the event....

Cookstown 100 around 2003. Richard Britten (RIP) gives Bruce Anstey a lift back to the pits. Richard on the clutch and Bruce on the gears!

Re: Cool Race Pics.
I missed this first time around,so here's a little more info on Peggy. She sounds a remarkable lady.

I was speaking with a chap today and this is what he told me.
"I know Peggy well, she even wanted to borrow my H1-B a few years back to race at a classics meeting at Phillip Island". "Given my bike was a resto., I wasn’t up for having it raced in anger". "Eventually she got my mates H1-B for the meeting". "She was in her early 70’s at the time"!
