FWIW, i'm struggling with the choices available. I'd really like another X-ADV and friday night i'd convinced myself I could have another and would probably have bought one that's fairly local. Fortunately I was out for the day and night yesterday and have come to my senses now. Its just not worth the agg. Shame though as i find them comfortable, they're amazingly economical and i like their quirky looks. Ho hum.

Rebel could be fun but i'm not really feeling the cruiser vibe at the moment.

Africa Twin could be a runner, but i'm just not really drawn to them. I think the wheel sizes puts me off.

So the obvious choice is the NC750X, which is a damn good commuter, but i've had 3 of them and its a just not an exciting prospect to own yet another

Any possibility of parking somewhere secure, both at work and at home?

Maybe there's a corner of an underground parking area where a bike could be hidden, and maybe even locked to a pillar? I know the thieves in London have battery grinders but maybe out of sight would be enough to let it stay in your possession?

The xadv is bizarre enough to make it super cool. If I needed a motorbike, I'd happily own one

At work I park in a private car park with security monitoring CCTV, but i still had two attempts at nicking my last one and we've had a few attempts on other bikes there. The London bike thieves are pretty fearless. But I do now have better physical security, 16mm pragmasis chain and Grnit disklock at work and Almax 19mm chain and ground anchor at home. Its just the constant worry of them coming for it. When they can to my home there were four of them and i stupidly went after them on my own. My wife was very upset by them coming to the house and the possible outcome for me. So I don't think its worth it overall?

No, absolutely not.

Why is it so specific to this model? You've kept some (to me anyway) more desirable bikes in the same place.

Get the nc750. It may not excite you, but it seems to me the other options are chasing windmills, or taking the car.

Bike thieves love them as you can "hotwire" them in seconds and they are powerful enough to push bigger bikes away when they nick them to order.

I'm still very much thinking about getting an X-Adv. Do they feel quick? I'm not expecting R1 performance but do they feel lacking in punch at all?

Yes they lack punch. They are a NC750 in different clothes. They are a very low revving engine and only make just over 50 bhp. Surprisingly fun though...

No, i agree, it's not worth it. The first thing in the consideration is "will this put Mrs Pietin in potential danger" and the answer to that is 'maybe' which instantly removes it from the list of purchases sadly. Unless you can come up with a way that won't happen...Then i can't see how it's a consideration.

They came to the house after getting my address from the eBay listing. I dont list anything with my postcode now because of that. So I think its unlikely they'd come to the house again, but parking one in central London is just asking for trouble. Even if the security stopped them, it's the damage they do trying that's a concern. Shame but that's the way things are in London.

TWOC'y lads.

No bike is worth the worry that it might put your family at risk.
