My old K1200RS felt like a big scooter, it would do everything from pulling away from zero to 120mph in 3rd.

You just need something with a big torquey motor. GSX1400, CB1300, XJR1300, etc...

Interesting conversation last night. Had my stepdad and father-in-law round and they was asking me how i was getting on with the new bike. I said that I still had some comfort problems that were an issue but had realised an automatic bike would solve the problem, so I have that option now, but I need to sell the other bike(s) first. Then my Wife says well that's just silly. You always sell bikes so just buy this automatic one whilst you're waiting for the others to go. No point in being in pain. Then my step Dad says, she has a point. I'll lend you the money if it helps. Talk about putting temptation in a sinners path! :? :D

But, as tempting as the green light is, i'm not laying out or borrowing more money and insuring 3 bikes. I haven't even got the logbook through for the CB1R yet and the Ducati hasn't had one offer or enquiry on. Its probably the worse bike i've had from a resale POV? But what did slap me round the mooey about all this was, why am I trying to make the wrong bikes comfortable when i could just buy the right one. So I guess the question is, what is the right one?

I am now very intrigued by the Rebel DCT, but suspect the AT would be a better commuter, but then the NCX would probably be better still? The one I really liked was the XADV but you just cant own one of those, because it will gt e nicked or damaged multiple times by attempts. I dont think a scoot is an option atm. Not because i'm against t them, its just i'm enjoying motorbikes at the moment. So, there will be a new bike thread soon, but only after something has sold! Shame in a lot of ways as the CB1R grows on me daily...

Dealers low ball you so badly on p/x prices though. Think i'd rather wait until it sells tbh, well, assuming it will sell at some point!

I've become a bit fascinated by the dct, think I blame dern. Really liking the idea of auto, but then , push a button and knock it down whenever you fancy with the flaps. Good fun I reckon. 👍

Not sure if the AT is a tall bike. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I really couldn't throw good money at a commuter bike - go for an NCX or another scoot, sure you'd still have some lose change for something else for occasional use?

Horses for courses innit.
I couldn't throw good money at a bike that only does 1 or 2k miles a year, I couldn't justify a garage queen.

Whereas all of my riding (& taipans by the sound of it) is all commuting and very little leisure riding. my commuter bike gets used nearly every day so why would I buy a shitter?

I've had several DCTs and am a big fan of them. Once you get into your stride with them, and start using the "flappy paddle" up and downshift buttons you really question why you'd have manual again.

I've chucked out a couple of px enquiries to dealers to see how bad the hit would be, if they'll even take it? Will see what they come back with...

Not saying a shitter - sub 4k buys a decent bike that should be reliable but no need to be precious over. I agree regarding garage queen's too, pointless owning a decent bike for a handful of mules per year.

What Taff says really. I've done "Bangernomics" plenty of times and probably will again when I go through another "I'm done with bikes" phase! But I like the excitment of chopping and changing bikes and trying different ones and needing a commuter allows me to do it. TBH I wouldn't even have a bike if I didn't need one for commuting.

Yeah I get that.

Embarrassingly I've done 500 miles in the last year! I don't even use mine to go to the station on any more as I get free parking. Totally pointless me having it but as it owes me less than 4 k I don't really care, actually using it this morning to go the barbers :D

Is there any way of hiring bikes for a few days or a week just to get an idea of how they work for you? I know that this doesn’t fit in with the Taipan mode of bike buying, but . . . . . . :D

Nah I was just kidding. Nothing new comes in until something old goes out!
