Is there not some licence law stuff going on here? Both power and power-to-weight are controlled aren't they, but I must confess I've not looked in years. Why would I, I've got a licence already

If I've done my sums right, they could go up to about 44 hp and stay (just) inside the A2 limit.

Something looks off with the scale of one part to another.

It's the chunky, weirdly angled header pipe. It's angled to miss the radiator nestling between the downpipes, and I suspect it's dual-skinned to keep the heat in the exhaust as far as the cat under the engine. Just like the new Goldstar it's the nastiest feature of the bikes.

My KTM 390 Adventure makes 43 (claimed) BHP and isn't that light (or heavy!). I find it good to ride. I am getting old now and my big BHP bike days are probably behind me.

The KTM is a good size though, them Triumphs look dead wee and nesh.

The scrambler looks nice enough to me but the KTM Duke 390 is 40+kg lighter - The Duke only really worked if you were above 6k revs all the time though, I suspect the Trumpets will be a bit torquier.

I thought that... then I noticed that KTM still quote dry weights for their bike. Add fluids and it's rather closer.

If wet weights are similar to the Duke 390 then I think KTM will finally have a competitor in that sector and it's one I might be tempted back to. 5hp less but the same weight with those looks sand I think triumph have a winner if the price is right

Wikipedia says 139 kg (306 lb) (claimed) (dry) and 154 kg (340 lb) (claimed) 153 kg (338 lb) (wet) for the 390 Duke... so the Triumph still has a way to go before matching the KTM...

I rather like their looks, exhaust system aside.

I guess most of them are Asian, but it suggests they got it right for that market. I'm sure they'll shift a few in the UK too if they ever land here.

Malta has a special road tax category for 250cc bikes where it's only 20€ a year. Shame all the "250" class bikes lately have been everything from 286 to 400cc, would be great to see an actual 250.

Yes it's a mutually beneficial promo but it's a decent watch - the longer Revzilla stuff usually is to be fair.

I'm *really* liking the look of these bikes. Especially the look of the Speed (nicer tank, better proportions) but the extra travel of the Scrambler (better for Maltese roads).

Depending how the reliability looks for the Indian 'beta tester group' and how they're priced at Malta's only Triumph dealer, I may take the plunge. Reliability is a big question unfortunately as the bikes are made by Bajaj with a Triumph badge added and even within India, Bajaj are not known for quality manufacturing.
