I'm supposed to be going to work, but I'm sat here looking at torrential rain with thunder and lightening and thinking fook riding in that. Time for another cuppa methinks...

I've actually gone in to the office today as bored of WFH and suntan is getting too good! Don't know why I bother though, no one else seems to!

I am an Electrical Control Room Operator for Network Rail. I'm responsible for controlling the 33KV AC network and the 750V DC traction network.
To quote a colleague;

"Sometimes the electricity turns itself off and we turn it back on again, sometimes the electricity turns itself off and we get someone to look at it before we turn it on again and sometimes when a troubled soul visits the railway we turn it off in a hurry".

Bit more to it than that, large amount of safety paperwork to be checked and rechecked before the night time engineering works to ensure the track staff kept safe. We also switch off the third rail for the engineering work. We check the AC switching schedules to make sure that we don't inadvertently "drop" a chunk of the network whilst switching the 33KV stuff. This tends to put all the signals to danger and fail all the level crossings in the area and you get a grumpy signaller ringing you up wanting to know what's going on..

We also have some "lively" discussions with our Ops colleagues regarding train running when we are dealing with broken railway and stopping the trains they want to run, so we have to get the Rule Book out and batter them with that.

That sounds like interesting stuff, all of that switchgear and control systems is specialist stuff, especially the hurty hurty voltages!

Just booked the next couple of nights away in the caravan, off to Derbyshire. Then the plan is another farm site somewhere between Matlock and Anglesey for a couple of nights, then down to Aberdovey, then, no idea but not back until 30th.

Just finished the wedding cross stitch I need for the weekend. Well, almost. Just got to write a phrase on it that suits the couple and their names and the date. Might take a bit of working out, but I'll probably do it tomorrow!! (I've written the phrase and words out, so I have a plan, just need to fit it around the picture!)

I'm taking my daughter & two other girls to their prom this evening & there's a chance of rain. I have two cars to choose from that I can fit 4 people in - the one with no roof, literally no roof, that they really want to go in and a Jag SUV (boooo!).

I have to commit at around 4pm and I'm watching the weather radar like I'm on pit-wall...

Around 10 overly dramatic girls coming round for photos and whatever in our garden beforehand but they've booked a chavtastic limo to take them - apparently parents taking them in nice cars is 'cringe and awkward' ????? A new Lotus Emira was offered plus pretty much anything from the local Porsche dealer too....

I'm on a training course. I'm not listening though and have been buying a number plate for my bike and looking at Facebook etc. These courses are pointless for me as I won't remember anything they say and will work it out if I need to use it or ask them for help.

LOADS of works happening so it’s bastard noisy. Boss is making sure he’s anywhere else except the noisy place! And, noise means no one even stops to ask questions
